notes
Chime is a 5 piece powerhouse, brought together by each member's mutual intentions. Their music is dynamic and could be classified as "mystical folk-rock." They have played at venues throughout the southeast USA, attracting a strong fan base, whose demand for recordings brought forth 2 CD's, "Starrain" and "Between Dreams," released 1 year apart. Chime has organized and played benefits ranging from environmental and political issues to people in need. Chime's full effort to reach out to their audience has caught the attention of newspapers, colleges, and local radio stations, where they have played live on-air and received excellent reviews from critics and listeners.
Chime has been compared to bands such as The Cranberries, Loreena McKennitt, Sheila Chandra, Cocteau Twins, Kate Bush and Tori Amos, yet they are praised for their all-original style. Chime brings Celtic, Eastern and higher consciousness sounds to an upbeat rock format, often times channeling and improvising their material, making each Chime performance completely unique.
Features:
Sage - lead vocals
Lova Michelle - guitar
Jennifer Gehl - violin
Matthew Mitchell - bass
Claire Franklin - drums and percussion

Versatile and unique
author: LysaI raised my eyebrows at the musicians above compared to Chime. All artists I treasure. But I would say it is accurate in an unexpected way. While I am accustomed to the sound engineering Sheila Chandra uses, Sage's voice is indeed very reminiscent, but unlike Sheila Chandra's compositions is balanced upon a unique layer of strings and percussion, leaving room for all to shine equally. It's modern with touches of classical, but nothing at all easily classified. When you want something different, a little extraordinary, reach for this CD. It's not MACINTOSH friendly. Enhanced it may be, but only for PCs. The music is what I wanted out of it so it's not an issue, just curious.
In a word: transcendental.
author: KabrownWhile the lyrics themselves are nothing to write home about, the vocalizations and range of Sage (the lead vocalist) combined with the music is absolutely amazing. It sounds a little like a combination of Bjork and early Clannad (though I'm not sure either of those comparisons do justice to Chime as a group on their own) and is incredible to listen to and I only wish there were other CDs to be found. In a word: transcendental.
Got help from Chime; Nice people and worthwile CD
author: A. R. RiebauTo revise my earlier cooments, I'd like to say that I contacted Chime through email about my problems and got an also immediate response from Claire of the band. CD Baby also helped me by replacing an appearently faulty CD without arguement. The music is very worthwhile, the CD has an ineresting lively selection, and its done by good people...Thanks Claire and CD Baby!
Watch out! This CD dosen't play on some computers!
author: A. R. RiebauMusically this has some interesting stuff, and the group (now dis-banded) has some really great potential. The CD, however, is copy protected in a manner that makes ripping files to put on my iPod (for example) hard/impossible. It also won't play on any of my computers, but will play in my car stereo. So an example of smart young folks with talent protecting their creation so stringently that one old guy thinks he's been burned? Interesting music if you get to it...but I'm too old to live in my car!
