Album Notes

Since quitting his job as a history teacher in 2001 to pursue a career in music, Chip Houston has accomplished things in the past few years that take many artists ten years.
With the release of his first solo album, Chasing the Dark, Houston introduces himself to the world as a seasoned veteran of the local Atlanta music scene. Houston's song "Aimless" has been featured on 99X as well as several Athen's area stations like 102.1 Magic. He has opened for a George Foreman boxing match, and performed in many renowned clubs in the Southeast --- and was seen on FOX 5's GOOD DAY ATLANTA!
This native Atlantan attributes his success to his faithful and growing fan base and to his friends and family. As a solo acoustic artist, Houston travels light, but on Chasing the Dark he shows his versatility as the leader of an incredible band. His sound is a mixture of Edwin McCain, John Mayer, James Taylor and Kenny Loggins.

Simply breathtaking
author: Pastafarian Biweekly
I recently discovered this positiverly masterful work of art by the rugged, poetic Chip Houston of Decatur whilst searching the interwebz for John Mayer impersonators. I was simply thrilled to find such an inspiring hero. As one can tell by his majestic lyrics, he has been through many arduous trials and tribulations in his quest to become a teaching musician. "Fall into my Arms" helped me through a difficult experience, when my dear rabbit, Khubilai Khan, ran away. I cried continously, simply distraught at the loss of my beloved companion. During this time, my courage and strength were tested, and the only lifeline I had was this song. As it turns out, Khubilai came home, bringing with him a toad, who I promptly named Marco Polo. We have been a tight knit trio ever since. The sound of "Written on my Heart" calms the beast in my soul. The beats is like a minotaur at the palace of Knossos, but when Chip sings it turns into a simple horse, that orginated in Arabia ya know. Thank you Chip. P.S. I suggest you give certain esteemed students 9s on their next essays, sir.

"All the songs are original and several are notable."
author: Southeast Performer Magazine - Katie Klemenchich
Reviewer -Katie Klemenchich Chasing is lyric driven contemporary music filled with thoughtful, spiritual visions. All the songs on Chasing are original and several are notable. Without sounding too pushy, Houston, of Decatur, manages to face his darkness while still letting his light shine. Houston's approach to spiritual themes is not overt. In fact, until a reading of the liner notes listed a few scriptures I had been under the impression that the tracks were all about relationships. Someone said his voice sounds like Tracy Chapman and the songs can be described as lyric driven, contemporary, with Christian undertones. “Can't Get Past You” features a sing along melody and catchy lyrics. “Someone You Love” sports a tight, funky bass-line and has emerged as a crowd favorite. “I Can Carry You” transports the listener to spiritual realm. One song features funky bongo drums and a jazzy feel with the supportive line, “hope is where you are.” The album took a few spins before it felt right and I was initially under the impression that many of the tunes sounded the same (a common complaint of singer songwriters), but I quickly came to differentiate and distinguish the subtle differences and like what I heard. Fans of Houston will likely be pleased with Houston's first effort. Contact: www.chiphouston.com
