Album Notes

CHIWAWA creates a luscious soundscape, topped by singer Laurie Gordon's distinctive voice. Their genre is melodic alternative pop, blended with just the right touch of electronica. They create and produce "pop twisted" music. Formed in 1994, CHIWAWA is Laurie and Krassy. What started out as a "greencard marriage" blossomed into true love and they settled into the sub-European culture of Montreal, Canada. Grooving from 80 to 160 bpm, aided by mature arrangements and superior production. In 2002, CHIWAWA charted on college radio across Canada and were played regularly on CBC radio. The band has been featured in the CHOM L'Esprit Contest and included in a compilation distributed by Universal Canada. Their debut album, "The Sick World Of Yona" (1998), immediately caught the attention of journalists, dj's and vj's across the country.

With their music being compared to such classic bands and artists as Depeche Mode, Garbage, The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and even k. d. Lang, their united efforts as songwriters and producers are quickly being noticed. Their work has been described as "uncommon" with "curiously noteworthy, alternative pop tunes." Think of CHIWAWA as a modern day Sonny and Cher, reborn in the essence of today's manic, yet romantic tendencies, they are making international waves.

Everything But The Girl from Canada meets edgy gits and bass with electro ambience. Laurie's sonic velvety voice compares to love on a summer aftenoon. Why doesn' t everyone know about CHIWAWA by now? Just love the atmosphere of the entire album.

this Canadian band’s fine debut C.D. sneaks up on you sounding like triphop rock
author: Frank Ruscitti, The Village Voice
With a singer whose come-hither voice suggest the sexy, brainy type of woman who’d sleep with you but kill you afterwards, this Canadian band’s fine debut C.D. sneaks up on you sounding like triphop rock 10 years before its invention.

A strong smooth female voice like liquid candy; seductive with great delivery. Moody atmospheric music with unique lyrics and teasing melodies. This CD has a jazzy, sexy night-time feel to it. I love listening to this album!
