Album Notes

Canadian Folk Music Award Winner for 2008's New Emerging Artist, Chloe Albert has had a ground breaking year since releasing her debut album 'Dedicated State' in April. The album charted 3rd, on Alberta's CKUA Radio chart's within weeks of it's release, charted number 1 on Lethbridge's CKXU on the Folk/ Roots/Blues charts, and is being broadcast regularly across Canada on CBC Radio 2. Over the last year, she has graced the stage with artists such as Lynn Miles, Luke Doucet & Melissa McClelland, The Skydiggers, Karla Anderson, Hayley Sales, Theresa Sokyrka, Laura Smith, Ann Vriend, Colleen Brown, and Andrea House to name a few, and we're anticipating much more to come from this exciting new talent.
Born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Chloe was introduced to music early in life. At age five, a family friend gave her her old piano, which piqued her interest and eventually, led her not only to become classically trained on the instrument, but also to become passionate about another instrument, the guitar. She was 14-years-old when she borrowed her first guitar from her mother, and since then, Chloe hasn’t stopped playing.
At the eager age of sixteen, she delved into the open mic scene for the first time. There, she discovered her ardent love for performing. Getting a chance to play with other musicians and being able to express herself musically was enough inspiration to stir up a powerful songwriter in an unseasoned soul.
Several years later, after countless open-mic shows and small venue gigs, Chloe decided to pursue her growing interest in music. In the Fall of 2002, she entered the Grant MacEwan Music program. Here, she rounded out her musical knowledge and performed for hundreds as a vocalist in the Showcase Band.
Finally, in 2007—a monumental year for Chloe, all of her hard work and fierce dedication payed off. During this time, she was twice selected among hundreds of applicants by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and the Edmonton Arts Council to receive the funding to support the recording of her debut solo album. Thanks to the AFA and Edmonton Arts Council, Chloe has just completed the album 'Dedicated State', co-produced with local musician, producer and recording engineer Louis Sedmak. Included on the album are some of Edmonton's finest musicians, including Sandro Dominelli, John Taylor, Kent Sangster and Rob Hewes to name a few.
Singer, songwriter, and guitarist, Chloe feels that music was somehow always intrinsic to who she was. And when you first hear her soulful relaxed voice, you understand exactly what that means.

Astonishing!

Check track 5 - Drag On. It builds into a fantastic finish. The moment I heard this, also on CBC, I was mesmerized. The audio samples online were OK, but the CD is dazzling in person. Among my all time favorite female vocal albums!

I heard Chloe on CBC - immediately my ears piqued, and I had to find her music - enter CD Baby. This album is soulful, relaxed and incredibly easy to listen to - very artfully and tastefully orchestrated instrumentals, and silky vocals - well done!!
