This multi-talented Armenian musician, singer, composer, actor and comedian has entertained thousands since the 1971 release of this album. Technicaly masterful on the Oud and Bouzouki, Guy is a seriously skilled musician with a gift for comedy. After recording three hit singles in the 60's, Guy became nationally well known in the Armenian community for his funny Armenian covers of popular American songs.
Then he got his act together and took it on the road. For over thirty years, the "Guy Chookoorian Belly Dance Revue" toured the western U.S and Canada, playing extended engagements in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe and Reno. Guy brought the best of middle eastern entertainment to American audiences, with beautiful dancers, talented musicians and hysterical shtick.
In between tours, Guy became a fixture in the Hollywood film industry as an actor, composer and musician. He's appeared in over 70 films and television shows, ranging from Fight Club, to Charlie's Angels, The Bold and the Beautiful, Barnaby Jones and The Love Boat. Whenever you see a film or TV character enter a nightclub with middle eastern music or belly dancing, it's a good bet you'll be seeing Guy fronting the band playing his Oud and wearing his trademark fez and goatee. And the guy playing Doumbeg(drums)next to him is usually his son Arshag, who also played on this album and continues to tour with his father to this day.
This album was originally recorded on vinyl in 1971, then transferred to CD in 2001. You'll hear the warm analog sound of the original recording, along with some of the authentic effects of a record on a turntable. So don't be surprised if the total experience is like sitting in your living room next to that Hi-Fi, reading the liner notes from inside the album cover, enjoying the classic Oud and vocals of a very talented, funny, Guy.
