Album Notes

As founder, songwriter and frontman of NYC's legendary "Choosy Mothers", James Katz took NYC's live music scene by storm in the mid 90's.

Choosy Mothers played to packed houses at such renowned New York institutions as Wetlands, Tramps and New Music Cafe, sharing stages with such artists as Dave Matthew's Band, Jeff Buckley, john Popper, Joan Ozborne, Spin Doctors, Corey Glover and Ziggy Marley.

They also generated a large local following during their 3 set weekly performances at Mondo Cane.

The sheer mass of the Mothers' buzz allowed them to sell 15,000 recordings of James' original music 'off the stage' without any lable or marketing support.

Once again James has managed to take my breath away and I've played this album so many times now that I am afraid I may just wear it out. I have considered playing it less often but I feel so much better after listening to it that really its only a half hearted threat. Headstorms exudes the true passion and joy that can only come from those who are truely dedicated to the art and live for it. The music flows out of the speakers and creates an atmosphere of its own that you can not help but be drawn into and transported away. The tone created is funky, upbeat and generally playful with just a enough sophistication to round it out, without bogging it down. Even at 5:30 in the am this album has the ability to lift my spirits, which is not always easy to do at the ungodly hour of the morning, and prep me for another working day at the grind stone. I really can't wait to hear what James will create next as for Headstorms so worthy of your time and energies its so ultimately cool.

Just got this CD today, and have already listened to it four times! *grin* It's no wonder the band did so well with this album, the grooves are incredible! Front-man James Katz has a voice that will be singing in your head long after the final song is played! 5 stars +!
