Rustic sounds and heartfelt songs from the LA based duo as heard on Morning Becomes Eclectic (89.9 KCRW)

notes

With sounds gathered from the landscapes of the american southwest, the music of 'chris and thomas' could just as easily find it's home in the rainy hills of the early 1970's English countryside. American roots instrumentation meets with soothing vocal harmonies and thoughtful lyricism harkening back to the likes of Nick Drake, John Martyn, Simon & Garfunkel and the late Beatles.

As I was listening to this cd, I found myself wishing I was sitting in a rocking chair on a porch. The songs on this cd are simply haunting. The harmony of their voices send chills down my spines. The lyrics are perfect. This is the perfect cd to relax to after a long day. LOVE THESE GUYS!!!

  • Brilliance in simplicity
    author: Adam

I too first heard about this disc on NPR. After hearing the samples, I had to have the disc, and I was not disappointed when I received it. Who knew that such beauty and depth could be captured in such simplicity? The quiet calm of some of the songs belies the biting longing of their lyrics. A brilliant first step in what will undoubtedly be a stellarly creative career.

  • Incredible sound-great voices!

Heard about these guys on the NPR SXSW Festival segment and had to have this cd! Can't wait to hear more from these two-they are fantastically talented!

  • Beautifully Haunting

Impeccable album with gorgeous vocals. Take These Thoughts is such a mesmerizing tune, you'll find yourself caught in its reverie humming it long after it has ended. Being an L.A. gal, I am especially proud to support these local artists. Great work.

  • sweet, real, zen messages over a bright guitar and mandolin

These guys definitly have had some kind of spirit training or "life thang" that happed to them. It's great "life" music that can be "listened" too. I rollit into the cd player and roll down the road singin' and wondering how they know so much......

  • A keeper

Beautiful lyrics, fun melody, and excellent harmony make this CD a keeper and one to recommend. All tracks are very good but Take These Thoughts to me is the most memorable.

  • I came, I heard, I was completely conquered! Loved Chris & Thomas.
    author: Robin

Heard about Chris & Thomas on NPR during discussion of SXSW Austin event. They played one part of a song. I was in love. Their lyrical voices and music, the simply produced (not the clanging overproduction of just about everything today) and their slight resemblance to Simon & Garfunkle won me over. I hope they do some more recording soon.

  • I love this cd!!

I love this cd. I can't stop listening to it. I can't wait until they make the next one.

  • I love the minor key

Curiously aroused by a preview of the S by SW Music Festival in Austin I heard on NPR, I was motivated to buy vista street sessions. I loved it! The guitar picking and the lyrical voices are sweet sounds for my soul.

Beautiful harmonies, honey-sweet lyrics and great tunes. A mix of Simon & Garfunkel, Turin Brakes and Nickel Creek is what first came to mind. Soothing songs and these guys a definately one to watch. If you like the above artists I fully recommend this EP to you.Simon Marshall UK.

This CD is absolutely excellent. I have yet to give it to anyone who hasn't loved it. The sensuality and simplicity in chris and thomas' music is a tonic.

  • great music...great live
    author: in concert

i caught the tail end of the show on KCRW, but decided to go ahead and buy the disk. I am thoroughly impressed with these guys lyrics and style. A couple of friends and I went to the show in Hollywood and found such a good time having them play music and teach a few life lessons through sound.

  • Great CD and fast delivery!

Finally, music for thoughtful adults. I can't wait to hear more.

  • I cannot recommend this CD enough - buy one for yourself and one for a friend!

I had the pleasure of doing sound for Chris and Thomas at Room 5 Lounge in Los Angeles, and I was immediately taken with their soulful lyricism and brilliant musicianship. I bought their CD that night, and I must say it's an instant classic. The production is very straight-forward, stripped down and intimate; listening to it is like having Chris and Thomas give a private concert in your living room. The songs are all equally mesmorizing, and the performances are simply magical. If you like Nick Drake, Chad & Jeremy, Seals & Crofts, early Simon and Garfunkel, or more recently Kings of Convenience, then you'll love vista street sessions by Chris and Thomas. Also, if you live in the Los Angeles area I would highly recommend seeing Chris and Thomas live - you can find a list of upcoming shows on their website, www.chrisandthomas.com

  • Nothing sexier than talent and passion ..
    author: Joy Marrs

There is nothing sexier than talent and passion combined. While I haven't heard the CD .. I saw them at The Hollywood Cafe August 2004 and their performance was mesmorizing. The way these two guys play off each other is amazing. I think they might be able to read each others minds. Kidding, but ... in a non-sexual way - these two are soulmates. I'd see them again in a heartbeat ...

  • Music that makes my soul dance
    author: Lalanya

Your sound is truly magical. This cd is such a magnificent peek at the mystery and talent that lie deep within you both. Keep creating beauty and may you never regret the time it takes to find out.

  • Absolute perfection in beauty and softness
    author: Albert Bugoff

I heard one song on KCRW and immediately determined that this CD (and any other work of theirs) needs to be in my collection. These guys have something I have not heard in a long time; a combination of originality, softness and meaning. I have heard many people with the same style, but Chris and Thomas have perfected it and made a style of their own. I can not wait to see and hear them live. This is just the beginning for these guys; I see greatness in their future.

  • Very heartfelt music with beautiful melodies
    author: Jeremy Tarleton

I saw Chris and Thomas open up for Jolie Holland and Sean Hayes at the Derby in Hollywood. The performance was great and they didn't have the CD out yet, so when I heard "Take these Thoughts" on KCRW I immediatly went to their website and bought the cd. I'm now delighted to hear that the cd turned out so great. I can't wait to hear more from these extremely talented songwriters in the near future!

  • Terrific, Mellow Music!
    author: Nancy

I first heard Chris and Thomas' 2nd song on sounds eclectic (KCRW)and was hooked on the blending of their voices and instruments. I went to Amazon.com, but could not find them. All the songs on this CD Baby disc are great. Keep cranking out these beautiful songs and I will keep buying, boys. Come to Athens, GA and play, please.

  • Wonderful CD!
    author: Marshall Labow

This is one of, if not the, most exciting new CDs I have listened to in years. These are top-rate musicians and their music is absolutely marvelous. I can't wait for their next CD!

  • Lyrics about humility and the pain of selfishness.
    author: George (codypomera@aol.com)

I originally heard the second cut on the album on KCRW's "Morning Becomes Eclectic" (www.kcrw.com) and it reminded me of music that friends and I used to play, so I checked it out because of sentimentality and bought it because the CD was reasonably priced so I didn't have to worry about wasting money if the other songs were crappy. Upon listening to the entire album as well as the song that originally brought me to them, I realized that Chris and Thomas are probably ex-junkies or drunks or heavily involved in some spiritual movement because they write lyrics based on experiences that many people are not reflective enough to be aware of. Their songs are about humility mostly, having a humble nature. The music brought me in and the message kept me listening. My favorite cut is still the second track, because it addresses the self-destructive power of negative thought, but all the tracks are very listenable and the last track is danceable. Yuh.

  • soothing sounds for thoughtful cacti
    author: ralicke

fantastic CD; warm, thoughtful, simple and melodious , vocal harmonies for big skies with small clouds, makes me feel like a prickly pear cactus in spring........thankyou for the music

  • they have a unique combination of voices that blend effortlessly.
    author: kristin english

The music has a synchronicity. One can feel the truth and strength in the artistry of the musicians that I feel has been much lost in the rapid evolution of technology. The album touches that raw part of genius that is at times more subtle.
