With a Grammy nomination, a Rolling Stone cover and two top ten hits; "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" and the BMI award wining song, "Two Princes," Chris Barron has proven himself, reaching millions of fans with his world famous band, Spin Doctors. Now as a solo artist, he is among the fastest rising stars on the music scene.
Specialists said he might never sing again but he has defied the odds with a full recovery from a paralyzed vocal chord that left him silent for a year. Now after intense treatment and training his voice is even more captivating than ever. One of the most electrifying singers in
the world today, Barron mixes his extraordinary songwriting and beautiful vocal styling to spellbind audiences.
Newcomers to his solo music will be astonished at the scope and depth of his songs. Rock, Blues, Country, Jazz and Funk mix seamlessly to form tunes that are classics the moment he sings them. A Chris Barron performance is full of poetry, humanity, humor and wisdom, set to the melody, eloquence and sheer singing power for which he is loved all over the earth.
Chris Barron is an unforgettable performer who must be heard to be appreciated. Now more than ever his songs and singing are endearing him all over again to people who loved him with the Spin Doctors and to people who are just discovering him.
A review:
Shag is the first solo cd for the Spin Doctor's lead singer, Chris Barron. I'm hoping it won't be the last. Chris has created something very special, indeed.
The sound of Shag is very simple. It is Chris singing and strumming his guitar. It's simple sound is perhaps its greatest charm. Its other big charm is Chris's very sweet and tender voice. This album is all about heart, emotions, and the soul.
His love songs like the opening I Know You Know, To You, and At The Stable are all wonderful and gorgeous ballads that make my heart melt. I've said this over and over, but it seems like the loveliest of serenades. Of them all, perhaps my favorite is At The Stable. It is seemingly about a stable boy and a princess and ever so romantic.
There are also a few other interesting songs on the album. Teddy is the first. It's all about a boy being scolded by his teddy bear for growing up. It's such a unique song and so refreshing. Who ever heard a song like this before? Letter From The Nation is a groovy protest type song slamming among other things, the way we treat immigrants and George Bush Sr.
The last three songs are all with ukulele instead of guitar and are called bonus tracks. They are incredible... one hasn't lived til one has heard Chris sing Some Enchanted Evening and Til There Was You while strumming a ukulele. They both sound so raw. The third song is Rolling Stone, but I prefer the other two. I'm a horrible romantic at heart.
I strongly encourage everyone to get this album.

So I am admittedly slow at jumping on the band wagon but luckily I am a fast runner. I find this solo outing to be totally enthralling and soul agitating. It is an enjoyable listen from beginning to end, I skip no tracks! I did chose a favorite though or shall I say it chose me and that would be It knows the difference. It was oddly cathartic. Also, I disagree with the person who didn’t prefer the first ukulele track. I was pleasantly surprised as I didn’t know Chris could wax bluesy. I also highly recommend seeing him live if anyone has not done so yet.

SHAG is about as close to seeing this charming, disarming talent live as you can get in a flat, round piece of polycarbonate.
A key track is the heartbreakingly gentle "Let's Try Again". You'll congratulate yourself repeatedly for making this purchase.
