I started this project about a year ago, and have been chipping away at it steadily since then; doing around a song every few weeks, sometimes more. Occasionally I would do a couple of songs in one week, and then not do any for a month. It has been actually quite relaxing, most of the time, and I’ve enjoyed putting it together. A while back I happened to hear some music from Etta Baker, and I liked it. It was a style of music I had not heard at all before then. So I decided to learn one of the songs by ear, and then another; and then I realized that I actually enjoyed playing the music – if possible - more than I enjoyed listening to it; although that is a close thing.
I really like the laid back, folksy sound of the piedmont blues style. Its music that should be played under a tree; or out on a back porch on a nice day. And that’s what I picture every-time I hear it – I picture John Dee Holman, or John Hurt, or Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee – or Etta baker sitting out on the back porch, or under some big oak tree, playing the blues. And strangely enough, that’s where I like to play the most.
So I got a few of Etta Baker’s songs that I liked the best, and I added a few of my own that I made up. I also took some old folk songs and a couple of hymns; hopefully you like the mix. This is my first solo album, and certainly not my last! Here is the song list with composers included:

The artwork is by my sister, Alex. She did it when I asked her to draw a happy tree; so there you are. This album was recorded on four different guitars: a cherry wood Godin, a Yamaha classical, a Barracuda electric, and a very old El Degas, that belonged to my great grandmother. If you have any more questions, you can check out my MySpace Page - http://www.myspace.com/123chris_friesen, or e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I do enjoy getting emails from people :)
Also I would love to hear your opinions on my music. So don't hesitate even a little bit to leave a review. Be honest and let me know what you think..
As of right now my album is only available for digital download on CD Baby and iTunes, not for physical purchase, sorry. However, if you do want a physical copy, you can e-mail me requesting one; then I can make some available for purchase, or even send you a copy myself. The wait time for that would probably be between two to three weeks, and would probably cost around $25 dollars plus a little shipping. But if you want a copy, don’t hesitate to contact me and I’ll see what I can do! Hope you enjoy and thanks for listening!
