Album Notes

In 1978 Christian was one of the youngest students to graduate with a First Prize from the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique (or Paris conservatory). He later studied at Boston's Berklee College of Music. "I'd say the first thing that shocked me when I arrived was that I discovered I wasn't bad," he laughs. "I began to concentrate 100 percent on jazz, on improvising and building it slowly into something personal."
Christian toured with one of his mentors at Berklee, Gary Burton, for two years. He then joined ebullient big-sound trumpeter Maynard Ferguson's Big Bop Nouveau Band. He's spent much of the 90s writing and arranging for Ferguson and it was this association that brought about his two CDs for Concord Records "Maynard Ferguson Presents Christian Jacob", and "Time Lines".

Christian's ten year collaboration with Telarc vocalist Tierney Sutton is taking on a life of its own, with the release of their latest recording together "Dancing in the Dark" the band has begun touring nation wide. Christian orchestrated and conducted the string orchestra that enriches the texture on five of the 12 tracks.
Christian's main focus at present is his new trio CD "Styne & Mine" with Trey Henry and Ray Brinker. The recording is a mix of Christian's originals and the music of Jule Styne. Tierney Sutton sings beautifully on two of the tracks.
Besides working with Tierney Sutton I would say that "Styne & Mine" is my main project. It is my first attempt at releasing my own CD and it's is turning out to be a fantastic ride. For a complete touring schedule go to www.christianjacob.com

"Descriptive words such as virtuoso and genius are not words I easily throw around. When I first heard Christian Jacob I knew he was something special... I believe that Christian Jacob is about to become a major force in jazz today!"
~Maynard Ferguson

Christian's taste and touch are impeccable.
Jule Styne would love this CD and so will you.
~Alan and Marilyn Bergman

"A post-bop modernist touched by the souls of Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett...Pianist Christian Jacob is a wonderful player whose crystalline melodies and expansive harmonies mark him as someone to keep an ear on."
~Jazz Times

"I've heard and played with many pianists over many years, including some of the great ones, so that it would take one with exceptional talent to cause my ears to "stand up." Christian has done just that with this CD. It is rewarding and quite fulfilling to hear someone of his talent, and the unique ability to extemporaneously bring things to life."
This is real jazz at its finest.
You owe it to yourself to listen to this man.
~Benny Golson

A cornerstone for the future of Jazz

In fifty years, we will look back on this generation and when we talk about the "Jazz Greats" who really impacted the art form and the music, the name Christian Jacob will most certainly be well noted. I became addicted to his style through the soulful artistry of Tierney Sutton, who makes an appearance on this CD. Listening to her I found I kept being sucked in by the genius accompanying her on the piano. I had to have this CD and I assure you, if you like good Jazz and you love to hear a good Jazz pianist, this is a excellent purchase. This CD will go down in the annals of Jazz history and Christian Jacobs will, I know, continue to bring us his artistry and talent only superceding what he has already accomplished.

Creative, brilliant, original - in the best Keith Jarrett/Mulgrew Miller/Brad Me

What a pleasure to listen to such a well recorded talented artist together with his equally talented partners. They truly think alike musically - a sure sign of a great trio. And they swing! My only slight peeve is that I felt the the drums were too overpowering (busy) during some of the piano solos, at times to the point of distraction; but being a drummer....I understand!!
