To explain it in words isn’t easy, but you can imagine their sound as something like Amy Winehouse stuffed inside Ben Harper’s heart while they funk out Bob Marley and Billie Holiday songs.

"These skills are full blown son. Christina Larocca has assembled the dopest, hardcorest and most microphonest crew in the club. Her wild bunch of musical outlaws are back on the scene representing and taking it to the full out extent. They will be wilding yo. Meteoroligists have forecasted their coming long before their time. "
-Terrible Tim, recording artist

With the soul purpose of bringing good music to planet Earth, Christina LaRocca & Heavy Weather are blasting through the New York City music scene like an asteroid entering the atmosphere, and they are here to introduce you to an intricately spicy new groove. To explain it in words isn’t easy, but you can imagine their sound as something like Amy Winehouse stuffed inside Ben Harper’s heart while they funk out Bob Marley and Billie Holiday songs. With their new album, "Miles of Mud" you will take one listen, wish you had heard them sooner and never look back.

Attributing their name to the strange meteorological conditions surrounding their shows, Heavy Weather calls down craziness wherever they go. Their rockin’ reggazz rain dances have graced the stages of NYC class joints like Crash Mansion, Rockwood Music Hall, Southpaw, The Bitter End, CBGB's, The Knitting Factory, The Lions Den, The Cutting Room, Arlene's Grocery, Harper's Ferry (Boston), North Star Bar (Philly), Alex's Bar (Long Beach CA), and the Bosun’s Locker (London). On their journey they have encountered other amazing artists to share the stage with such as Ingrid Michaelson, Melody Gardot, ZOX, Fireflies, Bess Rogers, Julius C, Rick Barry, and David Peel & the Yoko Ono Band. They will/ or have also been a part of the Wave Gathering Festival in Asbury Park, NJ (‘08), Milenium Music Conference (‘07 & ‘08) in Harrisburg, PA and Rock the Harbor in Staten Island NYC (‘08).

Lead by soulful vocals & songwriting of Brooklyn native Christina LaRocca, Heavy Weather started playing out at clubs in early 2006. Though their mission is to get down, Christina's lyrics aren’t typical and reach out to those that are flippin’ the bird to love, spending Saturday night funkin’ the IV chord, embracing THC, and riding the planet of evil people. While Christina does most of the writing, Dorian Lake (percussion/vox), Carl Gallagher (guitar), Dave Demarzio (bass), Josh Steinhart (keys) and Elliot Jacobson (drums) attribute their unmatched stylings with intricate and groovy arranging.

Heavy Weather recently won IAR’s Next Level Competition where they took home a $1,000 gift certificate to Discmakers. Miss LaRocca is proud to say she is the first woman to ever win this competition. They also received the 2007 Excellence in Performing Arts Grant from COAHSI, an arts council in their homebase Staten Island, where they also hold a monthly residency at Martini Red, the hottest music venue on the island. Through strategic networking plans, Heavy Weather has a featured track, "Bird of Prey", on Groovetonics Vol. 1 released by Hot Sauce Records and "Love Me or Leave Me" was nominated best R&B/Soul song from Toronto Exclusive Magazine. Joining the International Emergenza Battle of the bands, they made it to the NYC finals after coming in first several times in the Brooklyn chapter. Heavy Weather has also been involved with several charitable and cultural events including the "Smile" Campaign at Hunter College, the Staten Island Club for the Deaf, and the Staten Island Irish Organization.

I like independent artists and this is one that I am really enjoying. Who else can sing about Oranges and make it sound good? The tone, voice and overall sound is pleasing.

Uplifting, lilting sometimes even Caribbean notes that just made me smile. Not over-produced or ponderous, just a great CD to untie the knots of winter and stress.

This is a great CD. I especially recommend playing it when you are commuting to work or stuck in traffic. It is fun with a rockin' beat and a bit of authentic blues. Larocca's voice is the best and the band is tight.
