Album Notes

This Toronto based singer songwriter was raised on Gordon Lightfoot and Bob Dylan, in the Northern Ontario town of Sault Ste Marie. She got her first guitar for her sixteenth birthday, learned to play and started writing songs. She studied voice at the conservatory during her undergraduate studies, played in a local cover band and wrote heart wrenching folk and country ballads. After living and working in the north, as well as in Ottawa and Galveston Texas, Christine went to law school and settled in Toronto to practice law in 1999. But even mountains of legal reading could not dampen her musical spirit!

In Toronto, Christine discovered Brazilian music, joined a samba band and was featured in the independent film "We are Samba" (Avi Lev, 2003). She collected an unruly pack of musical mavericks - including Marcus Walker, Peter Eastmure, Robert Reid and Susan Meighar - to play every Saturday in her west Toronto loft. Dipping her toes in the cool waters of jazz for the first time, she fell in love with Dinah Washington, Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald, and her writing began to sway with major sevenths and ninths.

When friends kept telling her they could not get her songs out of their heads, she decided it was time to record her debut CD.

Together with producer Paul Milner, Christine gathered the best players on the Toronto scene, including Al Cross on drums (Jane Siberry, Sarah Harmer, Big Sugar), Fergus Marsh on bass (Bruce Cockburn), Kevin Breit on guitars (Norah Jones, Cassandra Wilson, k.d. Lang), Dan Cutrona on keys (Bee Gees, Joe Cocker, Al Green) and Nick Ali on horns (aka "the Brownman"). Christine returned to vocal training - this time with Elaine Overholt, vocal coach to the stars (including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Richard Gere, Renee Zellweger and Queen Latifah)!

The result is a fantastic blend of sultry, irresistible and utterly unforgettable music. The CD floats seamlessly between smooth jazz, pop, country and alternative rock.

Christine practices law and plays music in Toronto, Canada. The CD will be officially released in Canada in fall, 2006.

An album I'll listen to again and again

I love this album. Christine’s lyrics are disarmingly honest and they blend fantastically with the awesome musicianship on these twelve tracks. Her music and songs know no limits. Her voice works amazingly well with all the different styles - jazz, pop, country and alt rock - on this album. She takes on our relationships in all of their infinite expressions: from our bonds with children, parents and partners to conflicts at home and in the Middle East. The depth and delicacy of her touch can be felt throughout. The emotional impact of her music and lyrics make this an album I’ll return to again and again. Thanks for putting this out in the world, Christine!
