Album Notes

There is no doubt that every day, of every week, someone out there feels like their whole world is flying by. Some feel like everything is going to fall to pieces; others feel like they just can’t keep up. It is at this moment that you really need to just STOP…and see what you are missing. See all the blessings God has bestowed on us, the beauty of our environment, the beauty of a child's smile, the kindness of a gentle soul. All of these things and more are beautiful expressions of God's love for us and there are so many of them that don't need words to describe the feeling behind it.

This is the premise behind the brand new release from multi-award winning Christian artist, CHRISTOPHER AMES. The idea to create an instrumental CD was inspired by the quote by Francis of Assisi that reads "Spread the Gospel whenever you can, use words only when necessary." The new CD features original acoustic compositions along with an assortment of traditional hymns and (a few) cover tunes with new arrangements.

We hope you will consider picking up this CD to enjoy on your vacation, to share with a friend going through a difficult time, to listen to on a long commute home, to enjoy during a backyard barbecue, to inspire you to just STOP…and TAKE IT IN.

Take It In

I'm really glad to have this album! "Reelin'" is the song that drew me in. I can hear that song being used for a sound track for a movie. Very clean guitar work. I enjoy every track. This will be an album that I'll gladly put on when friends are over. Some really clean and energetic acoustic guitar leads that I really enjoy!

With a little Chet Atkins and folksy fusion, Christopher has offered up a delightful, playful and meaningful blend of instrumentals. I would have given this a 6-star if it were longer--the CD and each selection.

Can not believe this is indie!

I heard about this artist from a friend of mine who saw him win some award in Nashville and had to check it out. I'm an industry professional and must say...I can't believe this guy is independent. The music is perfect for any background scenario in film or television. Heck...I bet some greeting card company would love it. Kudos to the artist and his terrific work.

Instrumental Christian music will always have a place for the person who wants to pause and reflect. Christopher Ames demonstrates that he understands this fact by offering “Take It In”, a twelve track journey through spiritually inspired instrumental performances. In the liner notes, Chris quotes Francis of Assisi, “Preach the Gospel – use words only if necessary” as the basis for this work. In Chris’s words he is, “Trying to create music that does not rely on the crutch of spoken (or sung) language. Trying to express the Holy in sound and melody. Trying to avoid cliché and embrace musical vulnerability.” “Take It In” achieves these objectives and more. Although the songs are predominantly suited for reflection and listening enjoyment, there are a few surprises. Track three, “Reelin”, jumps out as a very rhythmic and up beat change of pace wrought with Irish overtones and flare. A brief piece entitled “I Would Be True” is a step back in time with a sound that is rarely found today. From Chris’s earlier performances and projects comes “Level 3”, a complex piece that highlights the God given skill and ability that Chris possesses. It is very easy to listen to this CD and as much as I see it as a tool of reflection for the listener, I also see the application of this work in weekly worship settings. Every congregation that offers music as a part of worship should put this CD in the hands of their sound technician. Using these songs as a way to enter or exit the services as well as providing a backdrop for scripture readings provides one more tool to the arsenal of a quality sound man, especially the song “All Creatures of our God and King”.
