Album Notes

The debut release for singer/songwriter Christopher Cash, Hollywood Mirage blends 80's new wave energy with 60's Pop nostalgia. Cash spent an impressionable youth scouring the soft underbelly of the 80's pop scene in Hollywood searching for, and finding inspiration. This album draws on experiences from film studio back lots to recording studio parking lots. Flicker of Light compares the larger than life, onscreen romance to the struggle for love felt by those without a script. Hollywood Mirage was inspired by the tragic life of porn star Savannah. Pardon Me asks the question: How free is love, really? Kithicor Wood is a frequent destination for those seeking to escape their mundane, real-world troubles online. Legends Lost is a tribute to our disposable heroes. Precarious World provides a view through a lens not made of rose-colored glass. Brace for Collision relates life in the emotional fast lane while Electronic Religion reminds us television is a powerful, though intangible deity. With sonic textures echoing influences from The Beatles to Oingo Boingo, Hollywood Mirage moves you through a kaleidoscope of musical colors. Enjoy the ride.

REVIEWS

This one is worth your attention

Background: I believe that before you read a review you should know the interests of the reviewer. Our likes and dislikes will undoubtedly taint the way we perceive the works of others. So before you read my review of Hollywood Mirage, know that I hold the following bands in high esteem: Stan Ridgway, The Stranglers, The Chameleons, The Clash, Interpol, The Strokes, The Damned, Bowie, Iggy, etc.... I think you get the point. The Review: Hollywood Mirage is an excellent geographic, situational, and genre journey into the many facets of life in the state-of-mind that is Hollywood. The artist does an excellent job of transitioning the listener from the tinsel town oasis of lore, to the dark underbelly of the city where so many dreams have perished. Hollywood Mirage skillfully blends expert storytelling, crisp production, and the illusive soul of this famous city to form a rich work of art. Particular tracks that caught my ear (and are worth a good listen) include: Hollywood Mirage, Under The Table, Legends Lost, Brace For Collision, Taxi Driver, Evergreen, Electronic Religion (these songs best bring you into the mood) I think you'll find this CD is well worth adding to your collection.

Warren Zevon Meets Elvis Costello For Beers and Burgers

Singer/Guitarist/Songwriter Christopher Cash has cut loose 15 songs for his debut solo CD ranging from cranking rockers about the perils of being a cabby to quiet ballads about the perils of personal relationships. Production values are first-rate; he teamed up with Joe Ongie, Orange County, CA musican/artist extraordinaire (and a CD Baby artist as well) and also brought in a group of great players from the OC music scene. Standout tracks include Flicker of Light, Hollywood Mirage, Taxi Driver, Perilous World and Brace for Collision. A fun CD for those who appreciate early 80's LA skinny-tie power pop and Zevon-like cynicism and semi-self-deprecation mixed up with a little Beatles jangle and a dash of Stan Ridgeway sardonic wit.
