Christopher Dean and his band of road-tested musicians take you on a sonic tour of America’s soul. Christopher has an uncanny knack for capturing the sound and substance of a song, whether it comes from Philadelphia (check out his rendition of Harold Melvin’s “The Love I Lost”) or Motown (ditto with David Ruffin’s “Walk Away from Love”). The funky groove of the deep South is ably rendered on Mel Waiters’ “Hole in the Wall” and Omar Cunningham’s “Check to Check”, and Johnny Rawls’ “Lucky Man”. Plus, you get a couple of great blues covers – Magic Sam’s “All of Your Love” and Bo Diddley’s “Dearest Darlin . Another treat for blues fans is a rousing remake of Junior Parker’s “Mother-in-Law Blues”. And there’s a quick trip in the time machine for a take on Nat Cole’s”You Call It Madness (but I Call it Love)”. Finally, you get three heartfelt originals by Chris that allow him to work in some different guitar sounds.
