Album Notes

HM Magazine review of Learning To Walk Alone...

Charlotte native Christopher Kincaid chose an almost literal title for his debut solo album Learning To Walk Alone that hints at his previous participation in staple Queen City bands such as Hopesfall and Laurelei. These acts were renown for their innovative hardcore and screamo sound respectively, however Kincaid’s latest act One Amazin Kid is where the bald veteran virtuoso discovered a much more mellow musical direction and here he superbly continues it. Perpetually melodic and consistently ascending, the album’s twelve rock songs (some ruled with an acoustic) carry an appropriate aesthetic of reverence and reverie proving impossible to ignore Kincaid’s not so secret weapon: his falsetto soaring to uncanny heights like an archangel returns to the heavens.

Rating: 4

Born and raised in Charlotte, Christopher Kincaid has been gracing North Carolina with his music for nearly a decade. Although he made his debut with heavier bands such as Hopesfall and Laurelei, he put the most time and effort into a longtime project called One Amazin' Kid. This is where his vocal talent and songwriting ability began to blossom.

His appreciation for rock bands such as The Smashing Pumpkins and U2, combined with the gospel influences of his formative years, make for a fresh and unique sound. His vocals have been described as, "soaring," and, "hopeful," with each song more refreshing and different than the last. Kincaid's sounds are devastatingly captivating, breath-giving and life-changing.

Excited about his debut solo album, Learning to Walk Alone, Christopher describes its theme as being "about breath and life and what makes it full - family and love. I've also had the opportunity to work with amazing musicians on this project, and their collaboration has definitely brought out the best in my music."

Pandora finds a winner in Christopher Kincaid.

Introduced to Pandora.com by the iPod Shuffle, I put myself on a mission to find a song that seems to find perfect matches. The song? Shooting Star by Air Traffic. The catch? It yielded several songs, but four from Christopher Kincaid that I couldn't stop wanting to hear. Wake the Dead tipped the scales, and I couldn't go on without purchasing the album! Though a few songs just don't ring out and appeal to me, every song is very well thought out and produced. The sound, on the whole, is just very appealing, and never gets old. If you're a fan of what Pandora.com describes as a "subtle use of harmony, mixed acoustic and electric instrumentation and minor and major key tonality," then you're sure to love this album.

One of the best albums I have heard in a long time. His voice is smooth yet heart breaking. The lyrics cause one to search the heart and face the emotions that have been bottled for too long. Good job.
