Album Notes
Jeffrey Ericson Allen is a Oregonian composer, multi-instrumentalist and electronic music recording artist. He has an extensive and eclectic background in classical, new acoustic and theatrical music production. His sensuous ambient music has been featured on distinguished and nationally-syndicated radio programs, including "Hearts of Space", "Echoes," "Ultima Thule," and "Star's End." Chronotope Project represents his most recent expression as a creator of contemporary progressive ambient music.

"Chronotope" refers to the essential unity of space and time, a concept with numerous expressions in literature, physics and the arts. The music of Chronotope Project explores this time-space confluence and invites the listener on ambient journeys of deeply layered textures infused with gentle pulsing rhythms and soulful melodies.

"Event Horizon" is Jeffrey's latest work as Chronotope Project. The music blends elements common to his work; the deep earthy foundation of sustained drones and rich chordal soundbeds, the flowing, watery melodies, the scintillating sparkle of fiery sequences and arpeggios, and the etheric and mysterious veils that surround and envelop the texture. It continues and extends his musical mission to create works of rare depth and beauty. In his words, “Music is about creating and expressing, first and foremost, but also about radiating the fruits of the work outward to others, who may benefit in ways we cannot imagine. It is my hope that in the coming years I can sustain a high level of creative output, support others who are doing the same kind of work, and continue to grow a base of appreciate listeners.”

Jeffrey Ericson Allen and Chronotope Project are now heading to Ambient Pantheon
Jeffrey Ericson Allen, from Eugene, Oregon, acting under the name of Chronotope Project is back with his 3rd full length album, "Event Horizon". Released in the middle of October 2013 as his second album for Relaxed Machinery. Jeffrey's both previous albums from 2012, "Chrysalis" and "Solar Wind", have brought to him a lot of attention within the the ambient community, Chronotope Project was certainly one of the most exciting discoveries of that year. Now we are entering the next chapter and I am sure this potential artist is again going to fully unfold his refined musicianship, just like he did on both above masterful albums.

"Unwinding The Dream" spreads with soothing organics, shimmeringly melodious sequences are accompanied by swirling crystalline tinkles and gorgeously nostalgic celestial expanses. An enchantingly floating piece of music transporting each journeyer into tranquilly mesmerizing spheres of sheer grace. "Akashic Love Songs" shift toward majestic panoramas enriched by mellow downtempos, glowing gentle percussive tribal magic and magnetizing filigree acoustic string patterns. A very alluring rhythm-driven elixir delivered by a highly crafted sonic alchemist. For sure this one will become one of my long-time favorites by Chronotope Project!!! "Arecibo" precisely displays the title with its straight cyber-tech mood with all those extraterrestrial-like fragments, radio transmissions and other phantasmal effects. The longest piece, "No Birth, No Death", clocks over 10-minute mark and safely remains in heavenly domains, graciously drifting through colossal cosmic spheres, reinforced by cybernetic breaths. But sad flute-infused sounds add earthy feel, and later warmly soft tribal rhythm and gentle tinkles inconspicuously sneak in. Deeply mesmerizing and contemplative composition!!! The following track, "The Temple Bell Fades", immediately moves into hauntingly mysterious terrains, masterfully enriched by sparse, but stunningly evocative piano magic. A truly beautiful!!! "Automatic Writing" attracts with its uplifting joyful texture scented with some beautiful, breezy, summer-like fragrance. A remarkably captivating and scenic!!! "Geosynchronous" catches up with its sublime mood bridging ear-catching bell sounds, balsamic ultra spacious washes and dreamy female chants. Another genuine sonic bliss!!! "Event Horizon", the title track, returns back to highly relaxing mood with warmly inviting melody created by pleasingly variable synthetic pulses and graciously meandering atmospherics with intangible choirs floating above. "The Path Of Least Resistance" slows down at the beginning with beautifully twinkling distant clinks and deeply evocative washes, but soon euphoric feel blankets the whole composition with richly sparkling palette of electrosounds enthusiastically cascading up and down. This is the closing piece and it's wonderfully expressive!!!

What to add? "Event Horizon", mastered by Peter James with artwork by Steve Brand, is a superb work loaded with high-spiritedness of its creator!!! Well, I should say Master instead of creator and you can be sure that his magic touch is heard all over this enormously sophisticated recording. "Event Horizon" is distinguishably sculpted and highly polished masterpiece, and certainly a very strong competitor for the album of the year!!! Jeffrey Ericson Allen and Chronotope Project are now heading to Ambient Pantheon!!!

Review excerpt from Music and Media Focus
I had the opportunity to write a review of the previous Chronotope Project release, “Chrysalis,” which I portrayed as: “Lush sonic textures and ambient atmospheres conjure the element of space, with time being marked by gently pulsing rhythmic ostinatos and exotic percolating percussion.” These are signature elements of Jeffrey’s sound, and are present on his latest release as well. On the first track, entitled “Unwinding The Dream,” I loved he yin-yang contrast of the fast paced sequencers providing forward motion with the atmospheric synthesizer textures and aqueous ambience. Track 2, “Akashic Love Songs,” features one of the elements I enjoyed most about the previous album – the percussion. Jeffrey is a master alchemist in his blending of unique percussive sounds, both natural and sampled, and adding effects to them to create some of the most intriguing multi-layered rhythmic sequences that I’ve heard. This entrancing groove, which is both earthy and ethereal, is the foundation of a soundscape that mixes a mélange of exotic electronic sounds, twinkling textures like stars falling from the sky, and acoustic guitar tones. The word I would use to describe it is “magical.”

More of Jeffrey’s incredibly cool percussion sequences grace a track called “Automatic Writing,” which floats on dreamy drifting clouds of sound. This track segues into the next one, “Geosynchronous,” and maintains the floating feeling, although the movement is provided by arpeggiated bell sounds, draped in silky shrouds of sensual synths. As a synthesist myself, I was extremely impressed with the seemingly endless palate of innovative electronic tonalities Jeffrey uses to paint his soundscapes. Fans of Jonn Serrie, Robert Rich, and Steve Roach will find a lot to like in the sound of Chronotope Project. There is a cinematic quality to this music that could serve equally well as a film score or as a soundtrack for a movie in the mind’s eye. Event Horizon is a quietly masterful release that now occupies a place in the upper echelons of my all-time favorite ambient electronic music.
