northern sagas
author: steve sharratt
We were driving back from New England to PEI ( a long trip) after a great tour of the Boston States and had an abundance of CDs to listen upon. It's with great pleasure that we pushed in Chuck's Northern Sagas into the deck and found ourselves captivated by the music. The other's we had in hand didn't do it, but Chuck delivered.
From the Shores of Newfoundland, to Raining in Boston, to numerous others that we enjoyed we were groovin' to the tunes. No bullshit...just good stuff.
This is a guy who knows how to change tempo, change keys and keep the listener riveted with interesting lyrics and subjects. Well done Chuck....and thanks for the tour of Gloucester.
Say hi to Mary and thanks for the great visit and hospitality.
May life continue to lead you down interesting roads where songs await to be discovered.

I love this musical collection. It's been played in my house umpteen times. Mary March is a song that has moved me to tears over and over again. Chuck deserves much recognition in my opinion. It is hard for me to categorize, but This CD is a delight.

A moving collection of story songs with universal appeal
author: Charlotte Ryerson
The Northern Sagas is a unique collection of story songs about a strikingly beautiful part of Canada, but you don't have to know anything about the Maritimes to enjoy it. Songs like "Halifax", about a disaster there in the early 20th century, capture the same sense of tragedy, heroism, and gratitude we witnessed on 9/11. "Mary March" is a moving account of a Native American woman you feel like you've met personally by the end of the song. And "My Last Request" made me feel like Chuck Hall knows me! This is one for anyone who loves a good story well sung.
