notes

AN AMERICAN ORIGINAL AS 'COLORADO' AS THE ROCKIES, Chuck Pyle is a walking contradiction: one part ‘Zen Cowboy’ for his delightfully upbeat New Age humor and the other part, a straight-from-the-saddle poet, writing musical landscapes of the Western experience.

After the press labeled him the Zen Cowboy, Pyle decided to “...ride the horse in the direction it’s going,” and take his nickname to heart. He shaved his head and began blending Zen truisms, together with ‘horse sense’, into his colorful performances. He calls his show a ‘Southwestern Acoustic Serenade’ and, playing rainy-afternoon folkrock like he invented it, he compresses a musical story to its very essence, quoting bumper stickers, proverbs, world leaders and old cowboys, while mixing in his own blend of Cowboy Zen.

Especially known for writing “Jaded Lover” for Jerry Jeff Walker and “Cadillac Cowboy” for the late Chris LeDoux, Chuck Pyle is admired as a humorist and an innovative guitarist who’s performed for the Colorado Legislature, on Austin City Limits, at Bill Gates home and had his songs recorded by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band & John Denver.

Chuck Pyle is an Iowa native who made his way to Colorado in 1965 when, he says, “Boulder was mostly gravel streets.” He writes about what is best about America and takes it with him as he travels, playing 100 dates a year. Endorsed by Martin Guitar, he has a songbook and nine albums to his credit. Don't miss this great artist’s work.

  • Chuck's music provides inspiration for co-creation and "true unity" ...
    author: Nature's Wisdom Healing Images

Chuck's music provides the inspiration for co-creation and "True Unity" here on Earth today. Like "My Grandpa's Hands," spirit can assume many forms in service to the Light, for shape-shifting is a talent that Mother Nature utilizes well (if human eyes are observant enough to notice). When transported "Over the San Luis," thoughts become glorious images that can alter lives! "A Mystery to Me" is why cp has not brought his golden side to fruition in the global heart of the southwest desert he so loves. "The Power of One" is only heightened, not lost, in communion and re-union with the divine other. (Communion: communication without words, known since before time began in early Polynesia)

  • This one MAY be the BEST so far!

My husband and I have been listening to Chuck for more than 10 years - he was a guest musician at our church in Nashville (RSN)! We have ALL of his albums... our favorite is Camel Rock. But now, we're not sure... WE LOVE TRUE UNITY!!! I gave the CD to my husband for Valentine's day, we listened to it SEVERAL times that evening, and danced in the kitchen to Chuck Pyle! Congrats Chuck, you've have DEFINITELY done it AGAIN!

the first time i played the cd i was slightly shocked, i didnt like it.....how can that be? i was enchanted by this zen cowboy. i continued to listen and grew to love this cd. the music is different yet still chuck pyle. the lyrics are rich and thought provoking. my favorites are grandpas hands and true love and last suit of clothes. i have listened to it continually since receiving my copy from cd baby.

  • Another wonderful album of Chuck's!
    author: Len Jaffe

Why Chuck Pyle has not emerged as one of acoustic music's premier performers completely eludes me, but the man moves forward with another stellar album of work. I got to hear a preview of some of these songs last December, and thought that many were some of the best of Chuck's repertoire. Buy this album, then indulge yourself with all the others out there. His literate and intelligent lyrics and melodies are only exceeded by his warmth, and if you ever get the chance to see this guy perform, DO IT!!!
