ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Chuk Fowler's debut CD is nothing short of a "high energy", movin' and groovin' experience-- in other words, jazz at its best.

Recognized in jazz/funk and R&B circles as a style innovator, Chuk Fowler's "Up From The Roots" is an eclectic collection of original compositions by the groovemaster himself. Strongly influenced by the resurgence of culture that flourished during the post- Harlem Renaissance, Chuk's arrangements fuse jazz, samba and caribbean elements in a rich musical gumbo that inspires listeners to get up off their seat and move their feet. Classic yet distinctively primal, this wonderful selection of old school and new world music meet to resonate the universal healing power of music.

In a professional career spanning four decades, Chuk Fowler has accompanied many legendary artists such as Harry "Sweets" Edison, Norman Connors, Esther Philipps and Teruo Nakamura, to name a few. His artistry as a performer parallels his committment as a music educator.

Chuk has served as a director of music departments in the public and private school systems, as well as a composer and arranger for up and coming artists. Under his direction, the orchestra, Higher Energy performs at various events and venues throughout the country.

A groove master
Chuk Fowler is a real groove master! With his smooth, richly textured, rhythm-driven compositions he pulls you into a mellow mood. I particularly enjoyed his prowess in the Brazilian genre.

Vibrant, uplifting, dynamic, energetic jazz fusion music!
up from the roots can be played over and over and never get stale. There are so many variations, changes, unique and
beautiful sounds. It literally takes you on a trip in you mind to places like the Carribbean. Master musicians at work. They've been there, done that, now they're sharing it with you! It's a must buy.

If you want something lively and enjoyable, take a listen to this CD
I have listened to this CD five times and found that I like each song equally well, and "Grandpa's Stroll" is one of my favorites. Whatever Chuk Fowler is playing he plays with great sensitivity and enjoyment, and there is pure joy in his performances that touch all listeners with its direct honesty of emotion.

Every song is a winner and so are the performances of these songs. If you want something lively and enjoyable, take a listen to UP FROM THE ROOTS. Chuk Fowler has a great piano style, very original and very eclectic. Excellent.
