Cindy Pruitt is no angst-er poseur.
“There are just certain songs that say, ‘Give me a razor blade now,’” Cindy laughs. “Even my most depressing songs won’t make you feel like that.” After hearing her positive, tongue-in-cheek lyrics and ’60s-riffing guitars, you won’t need to become a member of Prozac nation to get into her pop-rock music.
Listen to her CD, Songs From Inside The Bubble, and you’ll hear the psychedelic influences of the music from the Haight-Asbury district and the Filmore West. Throughout Inside The Bubble, you’ll be treated to lush layers of her Fender Strat and Ovation in keeping with her fondness for the “wall of sound” style.
Cindy is a singer/songwriter who’s open to hearing other musicians perform her songs: “It’s all about the music,” she states enthusiastically. “Even if someone else is doing my music, it’s still going to be mine.” She looks forward in the next few months to completion and distribution of her next CD. She’s also pursuing contacts with film and TV production companies to promote her work.
In her dual roles as front-woman for the Houston band fluff the kat and as sound engineer for Chances Bar, she knows how to please a crowd and work and play well with other musicians. Her self-produced/performed/packaged CD (i.e. true-blue indie) is the child born of encouragement from fans and friends who wanted her music for their own. “Sometimes it takes an outside point of view to get going,” Cindy muses. By acquiring the right software and gear, she says, she enabled herself to record her distinctive brand of pop-rock.
“What’s really cool is that when I get up on stage and do what I love, the couple in the front row moves a little closer to each other, the girl playing pool forgives her friend, and everyone has a great time.”
