This recording brings together classical, jazz and ambient styles to create a dark and moody exploration of the piano's outer limits. Recorded during a thunderstorm, this became an extended duet between nature and instrument, which together explore the limits of range, dynamics, speed, and sustain.

Although the recording centers on the piano and not the sounds of rain, peals of thunder can almost be more felt than heard in the call-and-response, and the rain is ever present on a subconscious level, reflected in the music.

This recording is meant to be heard, just the way it was performed and recorded - uninterrupted, as a single whole. However, Hallucinations 6 and 7 can be listened to individually. Strings and Hammers blends the sounds of the piano's individual strings (which are plucked by hand) with the piano's traditional sound, produced by internal hammers. Dark Blue is based on a thematic idea that found its way into the improvisation.
