notes
Circus Contraption is an honest-to-goodness, one-ring travelling circus based in Seattle, Washington. No circus worth its salt would venture out without a live band, and Circus Contraption has one of the best around, churning out loony-croony, quirky-jerky, gypsy carnival opera music.
"Gallimaufry" presents music from the show of the same name, which debuted in 2002. The show received glowing praise both at home in Seattle and on the road in cities such as Chicago, San Francisco, and Denver. From the stumble-drunk waltz of "Lover's Trapeze" to the blazing gypsy brass band romp of "Wooly Hat," this CD evokes the sights and sounds of a decidedly off-kilter troupe of miscreants from the wrong side of town.
As a special bonus, this CD also includes a video of our acclaimed "Opera Diva" act, which won first place in the "Pizzazz!" talent show at Seattle's Bumbershoot Festival in 2003. Watch and listen in amazement!
We have two other CDs, both available on CD Baby.
The first is "Our Latest Catalogue:" http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/circuscontraption
The other is "Grand American Traveling Dime Museum," a full-length album with music from our newest show:

Absolutely addictive and wonderful!
author: EmilieI bought all three Circus Contraption c.d.s because I couldn't choose between them. LOVED this c.d. It's eerie and gorgeous, funny and heartwrenching, all in one.
Just amazing!!!
author: ritxiI have bought the three albums of CIRCUS CONTRAPTION, and listen to them as a very long one, so I'm going to say the same for all of them. Absolutely amazing; meeting CIRCUS CONTRAPTION has been of my most important things in the last two years (talking about music!). A bizarre mixture of styles on their albums that has inspired me a lot to create my motion graphics pieces (to be seen on my site www.rtxcite.com). All that I can say is THANKS to CIRCUS CONTRAPTION for its quaility and THANKS to CDBABY for giving me the chance of gettinf the albums. A MUST HAVE!!!
Very Unique and entertaining.
author: www.GreatIndieMusic.comCircus Contraption does a great job on this cd. Keep up the good work!
great!!
author: janet penfoldloved the music and the fast service, thanks so much,
Like walking on a tight rope without a net to catch me
author: Erik-Jon ProftGallimaufry is about a half hour short of being brilliant. You honestly can picture in your head a wonderful one ring circus. I honestly get the idea that these people love not only eachother, but also what they are doing.... The ONLY reason why this album was not rated 5 by me was because it was way to short.....I need more!!!!
Amazing yet short
author: Owen GilbrideThis cd is all around great circus music, and the bonus video is nice, but the length is only about half that of the band's last cd.
GALLIMAUFRY!
author: Charles EdwardsNot quite as thorough an exploration of this quirky, carny style as the LP was, but quite sufficient to tide us over until the next album. (Waiting impatiently for more!)
I LOVE CIRCUS CONTRAPTION!!!!!!!!!!
author: Holly PuglieseYet another batch of fun and musicianship from the craziest circus troop around!! I am completely in love with both cd's. These guys are mind blowing! Can't wait for more!
Another fine selection of the mad and melodious
author: jeff from The United KingdomOnce more the Circus has come to town and once more we are taken in by its magic, a fine selection of the strange and the mysterious. If you have the first album then this little number will just enhance your listening pleasure and I can not wait for the next album. As I have said before, bring on the clowns.
Circus Contraption Word Assosciation
author: Alexis Von WebbinovI have listened to this album about 10 times in 2 days and all the results are in: sublimely talented, creepy, clowny, fortune tellers tent, hilarious rabbit - these tricks are not for kids, freakshow, perverted carnies, kitschen sink, raucous, ruckus, mesmerizing oboe, slippery, sexy, carnival, dusty ragtime horns, broken scary musicbox, inspired, addictive. Buy it.
Wonderful, funny, creative songs.
author: Michael P.Another batch of terrific songs from the Circus Contraption crew. This is wonderfully creative stuff made with an extremely high level of musicianship (which is exactly what I expected from these folks). I've immediately fallen in love with the song "Lovers Trapeze".
A strange and wonderful thing has come to town. Hurry !!
author: Dean goldmanThis album is strange and wonderful, grotesquely beautiful (beautifully grotesque?). Like the American Gothic of your nightmares. I love this record. And the bonus video alone is worth the price of admission! I actually bellylaughed at 9:15 on a Monday morning...at work!! Thank you

Circus music makes life much more enjoyable and interesting. Circus Contraption is an essential ingredient in society, music and acts I've recently discovered. Old Oingo Boingo?? I thought? But, yah, it's got that sensation of catty, agressive dramatic, passion, wit, and just a pleasurable ride of insane, yet brilliant musicians that swing from the bar. Wind, strings, percussion & ropes... my new favorite for sharing with others is this CD.
Enter the circus from hell ! :)
author: Lucien DesarThe second CD from Circus Contraption. Weird, quirky, unique doesn't even begin to describe this well crafted CD. The best way to describe it is imagining you were 8 years old and asleep safely in bed when suddenly 2 clowns burst into your room and kidnap you! They blindfold you and take you to a circus at midnight and then rip off the blindfold when the show begins. You scream! you laugh! you gasp! your eyes are wide open with shock and your mouth drops to the floor... as if Satan himself crafted such a circus... THIS is what the CD is like O:)
Exellent, creepy, and an all-around cure for society!
author: Stinky LomaxGreat follow-up music to their first cd. Anxiously awaiting music from their new show with that crazy new member of the troupe. If you like old Oingo Boingo, Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire, and Tom Waits, you'll love this!
- author: Tamara Turner, CD Baby
A seedy circus haunting the other side of town, a traveling carnival that takes over your fairgrounds, spreading ghoulish rumors of something amiss, something off-kilter but utterly irresistable, this Seattle-based conglomerate of stumbling waltzes, eccentric klezmer and neurotic dixieland-like swinging, jazzed up villain anthems breaks out another nutty soundtrack for devilish mischief. A mouthful you say? It's an earful. Celebrating the freakish, cockeyed, and idiosyncratic stupor in humanity with bar-piano trapeze music and warped music box wailers, you'd swear that on the fringes, Danny Elfman and Tom Waits just might be lurking and cackling. Make way for another Circus Contraption smorgasbord.
