Album Notes

Circus Day! No matter how young or old, one looked forward to the biggest day of the year in entertainment. Huge bright posters, window cards and flyers all told of the wonders to be seen at the circus. The circus is a great extravaganza to always be remembered.
The many tunes traditional to the circus may be heard on this album…exciting and nostalgic tunes of different tempos, all intended to bring back the thrill of circus day. The music on this album is played by the famous Tangley Calliaphone, often called the “Calliope” by circus folk. An air-operated model with its bright red case and gleaming brass pipes, it may be played manually from its keyboard or automatically from a paper roll of music. All 43 whistles may be played from the keyboard or 41 from the roll. It is loudly voiced and was made especially for use outdoors, for circus, carnival or ballyhoo purposes. This colorful calliope was named Clancy O’ Toole, and performs for your listening pleasure as a tribute to circus days.
