Album Notes

The mesmerizing poly-rhythms of the tabla, conga, and djimbe underlying the floating, airy tonal circumnavigation of the shakuhachi soaring over the playful, lyrical, soulful weavings of koto and sitar make this CD appealing to everyone.

This is breakthrough music for the new millenium, original, fresh, rhythmnical, meditational and soothing, coming out of the mystical position discribed in Clarence Dozan Ledbetter's play, IN THE DEEP BLUE SKY.

Clarence Dozan Ledbetter, composer of all 5 selections, studied 8 years in Japan with Hozan Yamamoto, world reknown shakuhachi master, and received the name Dozan (Leading Mountain) when he successfully achieved the Master Teacher License (Shihan Degree) from the Tozan Shakuhachi School, only the third non-Japanese to do so.

Circle in the Round should be applauded!
author: Deborah Mello
I applaud the talent that has masterfully ignited a wealth of sensual imagery in the melodic tones of Transparency. The melange of rhythmic infusions gives birth to a reflective repose that enables the listener to transport himself to a realm of blissful tranquility and spirited revelry. The sheer depth and beauty of the music not only challenges the senses but also nourishes one's soul. I am in awe of Circle in the Round and this CD should not be missed.
