Album Notes

Oklahoma City-based Country Group City Moon recently released their second CD, titled “Down Our Road” following the “Way Too Hot” release in 1998. "Down Our Road" is the first release since Jim Paul Blair joined the group in 2001.

Down Our Road features eight original tunes contributed by all members of the band along with five cover tunes that represent the various influences of City Moon. The cover tunes include Eric Clapton’s “Wonderful Tonight”, Stevie Ray Vaughn’s “House is Rocking”, the Merle Kilgore/June Carter Cash collaboration “Ring of Fire”, and a medley that combines bluegrass tunes “Duelin’ Banjos” and “Ballad of Jed Clampett” with Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama”. Ring of Fire was a last minute addition in the studio as a tribute to Merle Kilgore, who City Moon backed during his induction into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame and turned out to be his last public performance.

City Moon, heading into its twentieth year, is fronted by lead guitarist Virgil Bonham. Virgil began his career as a member of Bill Grant and Delia Bell’s Kiamichi Mountain boys when he was just a child. After touring the country with Signal Mountain during the early 1980’s, Virgil and his brother Glen formed The Bonham Brothers Band and City Moon. Virgil has led the group on two European tours in 2000 and 2004. Virgil and Glen also have expanded into television and film with Virgil appearing in “Last of the Mohicans” and Glen with multiple appearances on “Walker, Texas Ranger”.

Cliff “Bird” Parrett has been playing bass guitar and providing vocals for City Moon for better than 15 years. Cliff was originally a member of the National Champion Dixieland Jazz Band “Civilized Tribe” touring the country and appearing on the Today Show. Cliff is also an accomplished banjo, mandolin, and guitar player.

Cory Wyatt has been the steady drummer for City Moon for nearly 15 years contributing vocals and songwriting.

Jim Paul Blair joined City Moon in 2000, but has been working steady with Virgil and Cliff since the early 1980’s in various bands. Jim plays guitar, banjo, mandolin, and bass guitar in City Moon along with providing various vocals and occasional cowbell.

City Moon is also joined on this recording with special guests Eddie Lienhart on keyboards and harmonica and Randy Crouch on fiddle and steel guitar.
