Album Notes

"A rootsy, rhythmic collection of warm, graceful melodies and deft acoustic stylings burnished in bluegrass and folk influences, the album is both quiet and quietly galvanizing, up-tempo toe-tappers complementing the gauzy impressionistic ballads that showcase Kasper's sweetly fluid vocals."
-Naila Francis, The Intelligencer, Nov 07

"Reminiscent of many acoustic deliveries, the most noticeable being the subtle bluegrass flourishes and a similar style and approach to that of Irish songwriter Damien Rice, Kasper’s “Flying Boy” is a wonderful collection. Usually I grow tired of the ‘man and his guitar manner of songwriting a few songs into a record, but Kasper’s voice and melodies need little accompaniment, and the deft touches that are present speak loudly even in their quiet tones. Able to evoke ‘60s folk songs and Coldplay-like parallels, all without compromising his unique manner of creation, Kasper is a talent to keep a very close eye on. Aug. 26 at the Kennedy Center."
-LGLP, On Tap Magazine, AUG 2007

"Not everyone can take an acoustic guitar and make it groove like a full band, but Philadelphia-based Chris Kasper accepted the challenge—and delivers astounding results. On his latest, the stripped-down Flying Boy, Kasper and his guitar alternately rock out and sing gently, sweetly filling your ears. ...voice and guitar are the stars of the show—and they belong on the marquee."
-Mare Wakefield, Performing Songwriter Magazine, MAY 2007

"On his new CD Flying Boy, singer-songwriter Chris Kasper mixes country and blues into a winning pop collection"
-John Harrington - Philadelphia Inquirer

"signature dreamy acoustic style laced with words worth listening to"
-Tara Murtha - PLAY Magazine (PHILADELPHIA)

"CD with the most plays this month in my little ol' boom box.... Chris Kasper's Flying Boy. The acoustic thing isn't my usual listening music, but this album fit in quite well."
- Anthony Caroto -Origivation Magazine Blog

Chris Kasper independently releases his sophomore album, Flying Boy. The 9-track album is a cohesive collection of songs that cross diverse musical boundaries with a unique songwriting sensibility. It reveals an individual who is in tune with the process of soul-searching and songwriting. Flying Boy takes the listener on a musical ride, ethereal, floating, delicate, and genuine. Kasper draws on influences such as Woodie Guthrie and Paul Simon, along with contemporaries like Iron and Wine and Ben Harper.

Chris Kasper was born in Hartford, CT, raised in Montvale, NJ. He lived in Morgantown WV during his college years and moved to Philadelphia in 2002 after releasing his first album, "Trust The Tale Not The Teller". It was quoted as being “brilliant and moving” by local reviews and the song “Favorite Highway” won Best Song at the 2002 Mountain Stage NewSong festival. Chris also placed 2nd overall, making him the only NewSong artist to receive two awards.

Since then, Chris has played festivals and shared bills with Ben Arnold, Amos Lee, Keller Williams, Bela Fleck, Peter Rowan, G.Love and Special Sauce, Don McLean, The Radiators and David Bromberg. He recorded his second CD, "FlyingBoy" (2006) and released the single “And You Wait”: one of several Chris Kasper songs that receive regular airplay on WXPN (home of the World Cafe). He has toured the US and frequents the top venues in Philly, New York, Boston, and Chicago. He continues to play plenty of music with plenty of musicians in Philadelphia as a songwriter, a guitar player, and a singer. He lives in Manayunk with his dog Shibley.

Chris Kasper's FlyingBoy is nothing short of amazing. Starting off with the hard hitting "Bit Older" to the heartfelt ending with "Farewell" the listener is taken on a delightful musical experience. Notice song after song of truthful lyrics, beautifully warm sounds, Chris' lovely vocal tone and brilliantly timeless music. You'll find yourself listening to this CD countless times in sheer wonder of how truly amazing it is. Needless to say, I HIGHLY recommend this CD.
