LEMBRANÇAS is Clare Fischer's first recording for the Concord Picante label. His compositions "Morning" and "Pensativa" are by now considered standards, in this idiom and have graced a number of Concord recordings. In view of his close association with Cal Tjader and other Latin masters, introducing his first Picante recording seems more like welcoming him home.
Presenting Clare Fischer to new listeners is a privilege I enjoy every working day. Each weekday morning I happily take my place in the center of one of the world's largest record collections. There, with all the wonderful possibilities this situation offers, I look forward most to the moment when I can share some music that represents another facet of Clare's marvelous abilities as a performer, composer or arranger.
This is typical of the kind of grass roots support and appreciation that has brought Clare's arranging skills to as diverse a list of patrons as Donald Byrd, Dizzy Gillespie, George Shearing, Chaka Khan with Rufus, The Jacksons, DeBarge, The Hi-Lo's, Singers Unlimited, Paul McCartney, Robert Palmer, and Prince.
It is Clare's approach to harmonic voicings that gives his music such a unique character. Advancements in electronic keyboards only open more vistas for Clare's "orchestral" style of playing. As you will hear, his harmonies shift from tension to release like a gull soaring effortlessly to catch each new breeze. There is a sorcerer's astonishing magic here as Clare leads our imaginations breathlessly from one illusion to the next. His music is truly a kaleidoscope for the ears and a balm for the heart.
Clare has long had a deep affection for the vibrancy of Latin rhythms. Here on Lembranças he has tastefully combined his appreciation of harmony and rhythm to conjure up a gallery rich with beautiful, joyful, sensitive and uplifting remembrances.
