Album Notes

Piano Xarocho is a chamber project combining the musical tradition of Mexican son jarocho,  and Colombian-Venezuelan joropo and their Arab-Andalusian origins with Baroque and contemporary Afro-Caribbean influences.

It is the  incorporation of the piano soloist and accompanist into this son jarocho music, which expands the breadth of its  tone and color through the expressive characteristics of this universal instrument.

Starting with old arrangements, we have developed this collection of pieces varying harmonics, with emphasis on contrast. We incorporated solo cadenzas, as well as integrated elements of the joropo contemporary compositional techniques,  classical elements, deepening the textural complexity and creating new timbres and rhythmic games.  To do this we used jaranas, requinto guitar and cello, piano and violin duets, requinto guitar with harmonica, bass mandolin, vocals alternating with footwork, solo piano, tambourine and mule jaw.
