About Solo Settings:
"Some of the music on this CD has been on my mind for years; some of it came into being as we played. All of it reflects a love of diverse styles of music. It's the culmination of a project involving many uniquely talented musicians and represents the creative energy of collaborating with my good friend, producer Craig Hara. In the end, it took shape as an album of original music for solo trumpet played in a variety of settings. This is music I love to play; I hope that you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed recording it." ~ Charles Lazarus
"Bedazzling technique and a refined sense of musicianship"
- New York Newsday
"Lazarus could have tumbled the walls of Jericho"
- The Washington Post
"Sparkling Trumpet Sound"
- Frankfurt Allgemeine Zeitung
The eclectic career of trumpeter Charles Lazarus has been met with acclaim from critics worldwide. Lazarus made his main stage Carnegie Hall solo debut with the New York String Orchestra at the age of 19 while still completing his studies at The Juilliard School in New York. He has been a member of the Dallas Brass, Meridian Arts Ensemble, Canadian Brass, and currently the Minnesota Orchestra. He has been on the trumpet faculties of Princeton University and St. Olaf College, and he has performed and taught master classes in every US state, Canada, South America and throughout Europe and Asia.
Lazarus is an avid proponent of original music and is active as a soloist and composer. He has performed his original compositions for the Montréal and Ottawa international jazz festivals, live on Radio Canada, and he has two music videos featuring his compositions that have aired nationally on Canadian television. Charles has been a soloist with the Minnesota Orchestra, North Carolina Symphony, Les Violons du Roy, Les Jeune Virtuoses de Montréal and the McGill Chamber Orchestra. Lazarus has recorded music for television and film scores, and performed with back up bands for Barry White and Joe Williams, as well as with the Montréal Symphony, the New York Trumpet Ensemble, The New York Big Brass, and The London Brass.

Multi-genre virtuosity in moderation
author: AlanI love music that is not easily categozable in one genre, and this cd definitely is that. It's jazzy with classical leanings and features electronic beats, backgrounds and soundscapes flavored with percussion sounds from around the world. The trumpet playing is virtuosic but not so much so that you feel Lazarus is shoving his performance brilliance down your throat. That's just the way I like it. Most of the tracks are quite mellow; a few from the second half rock outright.
Unique, Great Production and Chops
author: RickCharles Lazarus rocks! Great chops, nice, nice blend of Classical and Jazz, His musical arrangements are something the buyer has to hear. Unique and AFFORDABLE! Charles’ music brings back memories and that’s what it’s all about. If I’m ever out in the St. Paul area, I’ll definitely go to one of his gigs.
