notes

After carving out a name for themselves with the debut album "Sometimes There is Trouble," Philadelphia based-duo CLEAN GUNS return with a more street-oriented, straight-up lyrical approach with "Living in Harmony."

A quintessential addition to any hardcore hip hop fan's collection, "Living in Harmony" finds Knowledge Don aka Nico the Beast and Zilla Rocca getting busy on 26 tracks of banging, raw, trunk-rattling beats. They are joined by fellow Beat Garden MC's So-S@y, Professor Anarchy, ASK? and The Rowdee Black Giants, as well newcomers S.U.P. and Black Russian.

Fans of Styles P, Saigon, Termanology, Lupe Fiasco, Big Pun, Sean Price and Wu-Tang Clan will enjoy every minute of "Living in Harmony."

...but just be ready for it to never leave your deck!!! Clean Guns is a monumental step in the right direction for hip hop music. An undeniable commitment to the betterment of this shit we all call hip hop is infused into every track of this ridiculously low priced mixtape. Pick it up..and consider yourself lucky that you did, PERIOD.

  • Another high point for hip hop standouts

Leave it to Clean Guns to get it right. After 2006's terrific, criminally slept-on Sometimes There is Trouble, the Philly duo fires back hard with Living In Harmony, a mixtape that demonstrates how it should be done. At twenty-six tracks, it's scattered with highs ("Watch How It Go Down," "Regarded As Great," "Fire in the Booth"), but the album is strong enough that those apices will be different for everyone. What remains permanent throughout this expansive and exhaustive work are Knowledge Don and Zilla Rocca's tight, terse flows, the seamless contributions of potent guests like Black Russian and Professor Anarchy, and the commitment to quality. Yet again, Clean Guns have asserted their strength and their status as a group very much on the rise. Already, Living In Harmony has me hungry to hear what they'll tackle next, but as an album and as a mixtape, it stands ably on its own two as well.
