Footsteps is the sixth solo release from Americana / contemporary folk singer-songwriter Cletis Carr. A compilation of his past four Australian releases along with tracks from his two Hillbilly Moon projects, Footsteps is both a career retrospective and a series of storysong postcards from Carr’s journey over the past twenty years.
The opening track, “Footsteps In The Hall” sets the tone for the collection with its dual-acoustic guitars, Dylanesque wordplay and a gorgeous violin outro. The playfulness of songs like “She Knew Elvis”, “Dirty Blue Jeans” and the spoken-word epic, “Talking St. Kilda Blues” bookend the poignancy of “Candy”, “Rain” and “Mother Mary”.
Supporting Carr on the tracks are an impressive lineup of players, including Rose Tattoo’s Pete Wells and Mick Cocks, 80’s multi-platinum artist Paul Norton, Kevin Bennett from The Flood, The Dingoes Chris Stockley, Tim Millikan, formerly of Divinyls and Concrete Blonde, and Chris Copping, of Procul Harum fame.
Footsteps is being released ahead of Carr’s long-awaited return to recording and touring. His new album is due out later in 2011.
