Album Notes

Clevergirl is the debut album by the San Francisco drummer/producer Karen Sandvoss.

Over the past ten years, Karen has been a member of the creepy-beautiful poptronica duo Supra Argo, drummer for the straight-up rock band JimmyJack, and a long-distance collaborator with the British techno/rock unit Autocat, all the while drumming and singing with her indie rock duo Beautiful Engines, as well as persuing her own solo projects: Spansion (instrumental techno) and Clevergirl (vocal poptronica). To all of these projects, Karen has brought her synthesizer programming expertise, haunting mezzo-soprano voice, twisted lyrical sensibilities, and drummer's sense of groove. She is currently in San Francisco, where she has teamed up with three other local talents to fill out the band for live shows.

This CD is very good. She is so talented and relatable. A very Girl CD, but not too girly. Her style is great!

Addictive

I first heard Clevergirl when they mesmerized Ladyfest Bay Area 2004. The sound guy and I agreed that they were the best band of the night. I bought a cd on the spot and now this is my second trip to CD BABY becoz I keep handing out copies of this incredible sound to all my friends. It is smart, insistent, addictive stuff. Listen to a few tracks, and then buy a copy for yourself.
