Album Notes

Introducing Clockwork.

Fascinated by the suggestive and bizarre elements within certain kinds of music, film and art, Clockwork was constructed in late spring -00. Inspiration came from the idea of a classic trio-setup that could deliver a feeling of sensation-extraordinaire and fill a cogwheel-shaped musical vacuum.

An early 3-track demo was recorded and released in the late winter of -01. The title track Wanderlust was played on the student radio and the band was referred to as "Leonard Cohen's younger brothers".
One year of songwriting, rehearsals and performing later, producer Mattias Olsson (Pineforest Crunch, Nanook of the North) was given the demo at a party and agreed to record a second demo in his studio (www.roth-handle.nu).

In a crumbling, tarnished brick building at Stockholm's shipyards Mattias and the band went to work.
The environment, where old mechanical contraptions and gutted ships tarnish and crumble, inspired a dirtier, darker sound full of screeching and the whining of old machinery.
The release party in May -03 and the 200 demos sold marked the beginning of a new and different commitment to music and the band decided that an EP was to be recorded.

In fact, the recording of "S: t Christopher Ep" started only two months later. Containing six tracks full of teethmarks from all his wonderful toys (such as mellotron, orchestron and the fantastic Chamberlin Rhytmate) Mattias helped paint the sonic fresque of a big, mean steampunk Clockwork. Mastered and delicately designed, the first edition of 500 CD's will be available in stores at the end of May -05.

The cogwheel symbolizes the winding up of Clockwork and inspiration comes from the works of Jules Verne and
Tim Burton rather than Stanley Kubrick.
It's the thought of certain aesthetics; broken umbrellas, Da Vinci sketches, gloomy barrooms and nineteenth-century sweet shops drenched in acid rain.
This is however not about theatrical, show-off art noise but about intense, black-eyed and totally original rock music.
