Album Notes

Clockwork is a quintet of musicians who love to sing. With their own arrangements of jazz from standards to be-bop with interesting, unexpected surprises, from beautiful ballads and hard-swinging standards to complex, harmonized bebop lines normally only performed by an experienced saxophone section, this award-winning vocal group makes the listener forget that there are no instruments playing.

Clockwork’s original style and sound has set this group apart from other a cappella groups. Twice they have become the champions in the A Cappella Harmony Sweepstakes (2004 and 2006) and their arrangements of “In the Garden of Eden”, “Fascinatin’ Rhythm/I Got Rhythm” and “Donna Lee” have all been award winners for their originality and performance. And this San Francisco Bay Area-based vocal quintet was nominated and won two awards in the category for A Cappella Performance from the 2006 International Just Plain Folks Music Awards. (www.jpfolks.com) Best Song for A Cappella Performance category–“In the Garden of Eden” from their EP “Clockwork” and Best A Cappella Album –“Tesseract”.

Clockwork has a focus on jazz, but also performs beautifully arranged pop/rock selections including songs from the Beatles, Iron Butterfly, Radiohead, and others. Bay Area and national baseball fans also love their memorable rendition of the national anthem.

In addition to being experienced performers, Clockwork, individually and collectively, has extensive experience hosting and participating in educational workshops on a range of topics that include arranging for voices, solo interpretation, small and ensemble group singing, microphone technique, and improvisation. All the members have been adjudicators for competitive and non-competitive music festivals.
