Album Notes

A graduate of Princeton University and Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Charles L. Starke, MD FACP, is a board-certified Internist in private practice in Briarcliff Manor, New York since 1982. He is experienced in Emergency and Ship's Medicine, and has served as ship's doctor on 31 cruises around the world, in the Royal Flying Doctor Service, and has equipped a National Geographic Expedition to the Kalahari Desert. He was physician on the m/v Explorer for two cruises to Antarctica and South Georgia.. Cape Horn was rounded twice, and Shackleton's voyage from Elephant Island to South Georgia was retraced.

He has over 40 years of sailing experience and 37 years of ocean sailing in the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian Ocean, Caribbean, Aegean and Mediterranean. He has owned, skippered and navigated five vessels for the past 37 years. He served as crew on Bermuda to Newport passages, as well as the Newport-Bermuda Race, and the Rolex Transatlantic Race in 2005 on s/v Whisper, which finished first in its class. He was a member of Princeton Sailing Club, Setauket Yacht Club, City Island Yacht Club, and is presently active at the Glen Island Yacht Club. He has extensive large and small boat racing experience and big boat cruising experience, including square-sail experience on Soren Larsen (144-ft brigantine), Sea Cloud (360-ft bark) and Sea Cloud II (384-ft bark). He was selected for membership in Cruising Club of America (CCA) in July 2004.
