Album Notes

Inspired by a university brochure instructing college girls how to politely preserve their honor, the women of Coach Said Not To came together in 2002 and have since built a substantial fan base in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis / St. Paul. The release of two previous EPs garnered international attention via the Internet, with their music featured on both the BBC Radio Network and Garrison Keillor’s The Rhubarb Show.

The women of CSNT like different stuff – drummer Annika collects Devo tees and thinks boys are smelly. Lee plays keys, enjoys a Side Car and can’t say “cognac” without blushing. Bassist Linnea can execute a saucy tango and often runs really fast for no good reason. Eva writes, sings, plays guitar and fancies a game of Twister©. Their differences blend in tight harmonies, quirky lyrics and an ironic stance that is defiant without being petulant.

New Album for 2006: “Mini Series”
Midwifed by producer and scene legend Tom Herbers (Low, Jayhawks) during five intense weekends of labor, “Mini-Series” is their freshman full-length, the lovechild of Ani DiFranco and Jeff Buckley born live on the Broadway stage. 11 previously unreleased songs blend a modern sprechstimme with tongue-in-cheek presentation and catchy pop sensibilities. Inspired by influential people, day jobs, and love (or a lack thereof), these stories bring a woman’s perspective and a sense of humor to faux rock and heart-felt lullabies alike.

a brilliant intro, beautiful cover art...like water from the lake - the bucket comes up cold & sweet with the smell of the deep. then...kafka said: from a certain point onward there is no longer any turning back - that is the point that must be reached. they ain't quite there yet. but they're all beautiful & so on top of it anyway. can't wait to see what they do next.

Magnifico, I've Been Waiting For This Band Forever

I'm shocked they didn't include a few of the early songs that made me love them and wonder how on Earth they're unsigned. But I guess that's the breaks these days if you're an original honest act. So if you're looking for the norm, look somewhere else. If you're the kind of listener who appreciates beauty and originality in your art, pick.this.up.

This is a great CD from start to finish. The lyrics are amazing and the vocals make them even better! I really cannot compliment this band enough, their sound is unique and different from most bands out there right now, I would (and do) recommend this CD to any true music fan! Congratulations Coach Said Not To, you've proven that a chick band doesn't need to sound like a chick band and you proven it with gusto!!
