Where did it come from?
CoCo Island is a small dot in a large ocean. One theory has it that there are a series of songlines that circle the world – and at a few points they intersect. The revered Island Shaman’s – men and woman who channel these songs – can tap the songlines. Over thousands of years they have been able to build distinct sounds that come from the musical stories of every world culture.

Who plays it?
The CoCo Island collection is produced by Freestate Records in Sydney. They make CD’s, perform occasional gigs and try different ways of interpreting the Shamans of CoCo Island; mostly with music – but sometimes with magic, sometimes poetry and sometimes film. A number of the Collective live in Sydney – with a belief that Sydney is the Continental equivalent of a CoCo Island – where the mix of cultures has created an environment that can combine different ideas into something better than its constituent parts
