Album Notes

They say “Third time’s a charm” and with this CD of new material from the Coconut Boat Band, the old adage seems fitting. Bordering on the edge of lightness with a touch of ocean blue and palm frond green, this mix continues down the familiar CBB path of lush harmonies and beach themes. Scott Kirkpatrick and brother, Chuck, follow the basic formula that is intrinsic to their historical roots having played or recorded with such artists as Firefall, McGuinn, Clark and Hillman, America, Eric Clapton, the Bee Gees and other groups employing a guitar-vocal harmony configuration. Both Chuck and Scott were also heavily influenced by Brian Wilson, Chuck having actually done some session work with Brian back in the 70’s and both Scott and Chuck opening for the BB’s while touring with Firefall in the 80’s. Recently, CBB caught up with Brian at a concert in Napa, California and left the show with a great band photo (see back cover). He is, after all, THE honorary member. Meanwhile, lyricist and pan-man Scott Ellis has been busy globe trotting in Costa Rica, Hawaii, Spain and other ocean fronts conjuring up those escapism themes we’ve all come to love. When he’s not busy diving or standing up on his paddleboard in the Pacific, Scott’s usually in his office planning his next excursion out on the water.

One thing’s for sure: this collection stays true to the Trop Rock genre with all the sand you’ll ever need between the toes and a rum drink to boot. Enjoy the charm.
