Dutch guitarist Marcel Coenen (Lemure Voice, Sun Caged), winner of the 1998 Best Rock Guitarist award at the Dutch National Guitar awards, talks about the music on his all instrumental shred/metal solo album "Guitartalk".

"This CD is the result of years of long hours of practicing, writing, buying a drum machine, learning how to use it, buying a 4-track, learning how to use that, and then recording the stuff. I recorded these songs in order to enter the Dutch National Guitar contests in 1998. Some songs were ready, so I sent them to the organization and won 'Best Rock Guitarist' of the Netherlands. These songs also appeard on the Guitartalk demo cassette. Later, I wrote more songs and put them on CD. For the Dutch contest I had to rearrange the national anthem, which I did in a very heavy way. I also got an endorsement with Ibanez Guitars, so I wrote a lot more songs to play during clinics."
