“Past. Present. Future.” is Colby Jordan’s third album after “Love Isn’t Happiness” and “Treehouse Blues.” In this album each song fits into one or more of the categories of past, present, or future. The purpose of this album is to walk through life with music, and examine what has happened, what is happening, and what will happen.
The first song on this album, “Back in the Old Days,” is most obviously about the past. It talks about how simple life and relationships are during childhood, and how sometimes we want it to be that way again. Life can complicate itself as you grow older; so with this song you can just sit back and be nostalgic for the way things used to be.
The song “Beautiful Temptation” lives in the present. With a light-hearted and laid back feel this song is simply about a guy chasing after a girl. A special thanks to Dieter Stach for recording rhythm guitar on this one. Another song that discusses the present is “Tonight.” This song is about a man hoping for a second chance. He has lost his girl but needs her back. With a driving melody you can hear the desperation in the song and know that it is now or never for this relationship.
The final song on the album, “We Are Not Alone,” is about the future. This song is about moving on to a new phase in life. Everyone makes many choices in life and the big question is always: were they the right ones. The song discusses how quickly time flies and how it is ok to be nervous for what lies ahead. In the chorus it says that we must “take a step out to the unknown” and that when we do that and open ourselves to change, everything will work out in the end.
Overall “Past. Present. Future.” has a song for everyone. With great music and a timeless concept, listeners will wish they had this album in the past, sing along to it in the present, and definitely look for more Colby Jordan in the future!
