"..What a great band. Some really killer songs and Derek Compton laid down some trully inspired guitar. All coming together. This is a band you need to check out. Great people and I thoroughly enjoy recording them. They are on their way." - Mike McClure (Producer & front man for Mike McClure Band and The Great Divide)
Reddirt-bluecollar.com Album Review:
"The new CD Devil By The Tail is set for release this month. Recently I had the opportunity to get a first listen to this Mike McClure produced record. This band might not be from Oklahoma or Texas but they easily fit in to our music landscape. The band consists of front man Cole Porter, Harmony Vocals Kendra Edmonds, Lead guitarist Derek Compton, Bassist Chris Heifner, and Drummer Jamison Case. Devil By The Tail is a really well done disk start to finish. What a like about this disk is that nothing feels forced from the lyrics, to the harmonies, to the guitar licks that caught my attention. Mike McClure as a producer does what he does best by capturing lightening in a bottle with each track. One of my favorite tracks is the title track which shows a very rocking side of the band with stellar guitar work from Derek Compton and harmonies from Cole and Kendra. The trailer song offers us a chance to hear more from Kendra who you could easily mistake as a Pistol Annie member when you hear her. It has a conversational element between the two that almost anyone who has been in a long term relationship can relate to. A Chapter , is definitely a catchy tune that I think could do well on radio. It is a well crafted song about love, heartbreak, and holding on to faith. Other standout tracks are I-44, Fly With Me, and Back's Against The Wall. The band has been making a name for themselves in their home state of Missouri but they are coming to Oklahoma quite a bit. I would like to see them come to Texas soon. The CD will be officially released at their July 19th show Cartoon's Oyster Bar in Missouri, however the band is playing at the Wormy Dog Saloon on Friday. I highly recommend you download Devil By The Tail on ITunes. I don't have an exact release for the ITunes but we will let you know as soon I find out. Also be on the look out to see them in Oklahoma in the fall. They have string of dates in the area around September and October including College Days in Stillwater."
The Cole Porter Band is a genre destroying band out of Southwest Missouri with Ozark roots and a sound as distinct as their home. They're hard to pin down but they embrace the red dirt mind set and have made their own blend of country, southern rock, and red dirt just the way they like it. Their ability to fuse the sweet spots from these genres has attracted a fan base of welcomed diversity that is spreading throughout Missouri and making it's way into Oklahoma, Arkansas and other surrounding states.
Cole first got his start as a solo artist at the Snorty Horse Saloon at just 19-years old. The Snorty Horse had been hailed as the “best little roadhouse in Missouri” and was the first venue to bring red dirt music close to home. A lot of great artists like Jason Boland, Billy Joe Shaver, Randy Rogers, and Charlie Robison had graced that stage, and Cole jumped at the first chance he got play there. That moment instilled a passion for performing and writing music in Cole that is stronger than ever today.
Cole landed a weekly gig at the Snorty Horse shortly after that night and spent the next five years playing acoustic shows, dialing in his songwriting, and learning to grow from his mistakes. He gained a loyal following during those years that still remains today. In the spring of 2011 Cole decided to take his show to the next level and formed the Cole Porter Band comprised of dedicated musicians Derek Compton on lead guitar, Chris Hef Heifner on bass guitar, & Jamison Case on drums. The band really hit their stride after Kendra Edmonds came on board with her gripping harmonies. The band has since played over 150 shows and has shown relentless dedication .They've been on stage with acts such as David Allen Coe, Gary Allan, Jason Boland & the Stragglers, Stoney Larue, Reckless Kelly, The Departed, Mark Chesnutt, Corb Lund, Whiskey Myers, Dirty River Boys, and the Turnpike Troubadours. They’ve had the honor of playing notable venues such as George’s Majestic Lounge, Knuckleheads Saloon, Music & Mayhem (Eufaula Cove Amphitheatre) and the Wormy Dog Saloon in OKC.
Cole teamed up with two-time grammy winning engineer, Jim Caruana, in mid 2011 to record his first EP. The 4 tracks saw some radio play on Springfield’s Q102.1 FM and 96.9FM KKOW in Pittsburg, KS, and spent more than six weeks at no. 1 on the Live Local Countdown on KBFL 99.9 FM. The EP is available on Itunes and most online distributors. The band just finished recording their first full length album with legendary singer/songwriter and producer, Mike McClure, who had this to say about the band, "..What a great band. Some really killer songs and Derek Compton laid down some trully inspired guitar. All coming together. This a band you need to check out. Great people and I thoroughly enjoy recording them. They are on their way." Look for the album to drop in mid July 2013.
