Album Notes

Growing up in Brooklyn I didn't always know that I wanted to be a singer, recording artist, whateva'. But I always knew I loved music and I also knew I wanted to become my own boss. I've been compared to everyone but I sound like no one.

Ok. So now I'm composing and recording the kind of music that inspires me and all these doors start opening. I was writing with producers and I was blessed to have my song "Anything" chosen for 2 compilation CD's "Paris to Brooklyn" (Relief Records) and "Soul and R&B #21" alongside Kanye West and R. Kelly.( R. Kelly...yeah, yeah I know but he's still a genius). Fast forward to 2005 I'm in Singapore backing the phenomenal Cameroonian vocalist Kaissa (Sony South Africa) and it hits me. I left college with one year left to graduate. Maybe, now is the time to go back, finish getting my degree in music and wrap my s*&t up in a nice little bow.

So that's where I am now. I'm in school, writing, gigging with acts like Little Jackie (S-Curve Records), Governor (Atlantic), Lisa Lisa (Columbia), Kaissa (Sony South Africa), Inoki (Warner/Atlantic) and Bazaare Royale to name a few while and honing my craft while being nominated for a Swedish Grammy for best live performance. People always ask me what kind of artist I am or how would I describe my music and I never know how to answer. Come to think of it, I don't think I should answer that question because the moment I do I'll be putting myself in a box. And that's why I left retail. I'll let my music speak for itself. The product of all my experience thus far is "The Basement Sessions", some of my most personal material.

Talk about ORGANIC soul...this young lady brings the term 'sweet voice' to a whole other level...especially pleasing were the tracks 'Season' and '2morrow' the latter bringing shades of Minnie Riperton and Tammi Terrell to the table - the former a distinct, smoky, smooth R&B and jazz infused track that displays Cole's range with aplomb. I'm feelin this up and coming sensation...its just for the world to catch up.
