Album Notes

Birth and Rebirth, an extraordinary release into the world of religious music, is performed by Colindãtorii, a group of eleven professional American singers from the Choral Arts Society of Washington, DC. This recording is a singularly unique exhibition of Romanian Christmas and Easter music.

What Colindãtorii shares with the Romanian community is a love of the subtleties and poetic qualities of Romanian music; something that shines through on every track. It is a love that is sure to spread to many communities.

There are few recordings that have so completely captured the essence of Romanian religious holiday music, and that so clearly manifest the terrain of the Romanian soul. Birth and Rebirth is a milestone in the catalogue of sacred music.

100% of the proceeds from sales of Birth and Rebirth benefit a non-profit, private center for abandoned infants in Romania. Music director Larisa Lucaci-Vashee and her two daughters, Maya and Lina, volunteer their time each summer at this safe haven in Târgoviºte. See our website (link at left) for more information and opportunities to contribute.

American parents of adopted Romanian children will love this recording, as a way to introduce their children to their own cultural legacy through the power of music.

Almost there, in an awesome kind of way

I'm English, I do speak Romanian fluently (having worked here for 17 years), I am a Christian and I am a musician. The music is lovely. The singing is sublime. The pronunciation of the Romanian slips from time to time (but certain Romanian vowels are notoriously difficult for foreigners to get right anyway); I guess that doesn't matter for most people, but I have to admit that it does mar slightly my appreciation of the performances. Nevertheless, it is beautiful and well worth having in your collection.

It doesn't matter that I don't understand the words. It communicates serenity and hope to the soul. Our son married a Romanian girl. I have found a rich culture of gorgeous music!!!!

Beautiful music even if you don't speak Romanian

This CD is great. My husband who speaks Romanian said some of the accents/pronunciations of words are not correct (and he discovered that the singers have english names) but we both enjoy this CD very much. Definitely can be played throughout the year and not just on the holidays.

I am delighted with this CD. I don't know Romanian, but an English translation is provided for me to consult. I love the character of this music, its heart. The texts may be for Christmas and Easter, but the worshipful music is for all year 'round.
