Album Notes

Transpacific Blues

This album came about as a result of my desire to record a few solo acoustic guitar instrumentals that combined both my blues and Hawaiian influences, music which I love and respect deeply and which has provided me with eternal musical fulfillment and enjoyment.

I recorded these songs with the help of my friend John Lawrence, an accomplished young engineer and producer based in Chicago who I have previously worked with on my General Delivery cd with multi-instrumentalist, Cliff Starbuck.

The sessions, which took place at John's Wicker Room Audio on May 5 & 6 2008, went incredibly quickly-but not hastily; we recorded eighteen numbers in one day and on the second session decided on the fouteen numbers represented here.

The process was swift and serendipitous: John set up two condensor mics in the room and I played as if I were playing for an audience , which is to say just going for it and having fun.

I utiliized a number of different guitars, each having their own unique voice that I felt would help to create a diverse sonic palette through out the record. These included a National Baritone Tricone, a Celtic Cross Weissenborn as well as a Gibson Hummingbird and a Tacoma koa wood parlor guitar

I had a blast making this album and I truly hope you enjoy it as well.

Peace & Aloha,

Colin John

A Review from Hookahheads Forum:

"After gettting my hands on Colin John's newest project, Transpacific Blues, I can't seem to take it out of my CD player nor get his music out of my head. Transpacific, where Hawaian style music meshes with some good old fashioned blues, is a must have for ALL music enthusiasts.

Colin really gave 110% when he poured his heart and soul into a 14 track instrumental masterpiece!
Words aren't needed nor missed as Colin layers every track with many sounds giving each song a "full" feeling if you will. I enjoy the Colin John Band material a good deal and General Delivery with Cliff Starbuck is an amazing album but Transpacific Blues has gone to a new level of CJ's attitude, style and amazing ability.
Make sure to pick this CD up the next time you see a CJB show or one of the many solo accoustic shows he does as well."
