The Florida Keys

by Colin Ward

The delights of the Florida Keys! Stuck in the frozen north, shoveling snow, skidding on ice? This song will take you to the warm, mellow Florida Keys where the breeze is warm, where the water is inviting, where the fish are rainbows swimming amid beautiful coral reefs. Where flip flops and bathing suits are all you need to wear. Where fun and frivolity rule at the southernmost point of the USA. Colin has been a sailboat cruiser for many years and has spent lots of time in the Keys where he could not resist writing this song. So chill out, listen to mellow guitars and join in singing the words to The Florida Keys!

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Florida Keys is a song written about the awful winter weather in Chicago in 2011 and the contrast with the lovely Florida Keys. It is Trop Rock at its finest!

Colin has been a guitar player since he was 12 years old when his grandfather loaned him an ancient acoustic guitar of unknown origin. He has become a prolific songwriter in the last ten years. Colin's song Wish I'd Never was used as background music for a FOX TV show called The Good Guys. He has also placed songs in independent films and in radio advertisements. Colin, who hails from England, brings us great tunes in the Folk, Folk Rock, Country, Blues, and Tropical genres. Colin has been a resident of western Florida for the past ten years.

Colin has traveled the world and has cruised extensively on his sailboat. His songs reflect his lifetime of experiences. He has lived in England, Ohio, West Virginia, Chicago, Texas, the Bahamas and now Florida. He has visited all the countries in North America, most states, most Caribbean islands, most European countries, China, Japan, Russia and Hong Kong. While there is admittedly some poetic license in play, his stories are largely true.

Colin lists many great classic rock, folk and country artists as his influences. The Beatles, The Byrds, The Ventures, The Shadows, Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, Roger McGuinn, Alison Krauss, Jimmy Buffett, Carole King, Paul Simon, Chet Atkins, Valerie Carter, The Eagles, Albert King, BB King and Stevie Ray Vaughan. He listens to Mumford and Sons, The Avett Brothers, Guy Clark, and many top local artists from the West Coast of Florida like John Kelly, Rebekah Pulley and Jayne Kelli.

An avid performer, Colin is a member of the Blue Island Beer Club acoustic duo, and the Trop Rock Junkies tropical band. He has played at the Englewood Music Festival, the Bahamian Music and Heritage Festival, the Gulfport Geckofest, the Tampa Songs Music Festival, and has even opened for the legendary Jimmy Buffett at the Ford Amphitheater. Colin appears on two Blue Island Beer Club CDs and one CD from the Trop Rock Junkies with another one on the way.
