What a beautiful cd! Colleen and Co. keep the music traditional and fresh at the same time. Her singing is lovely and the accompanying musicians sing and play with energy and heart. Many of the songs are new to me, and the ones I'm familiar with have an interesting twist to them. A gem!!

Fantastic Voice, emotional Depth

Let me start of this review by saying that I am not a regular listener of Irish music. I think the most experience I have with it is simply in passing. However, listening to Colleen Raney's "Linnet" makes me want to discover more, and more, because if it's as good as this, then there's an entire genre of music I've been missing out on. Her songs are emotional, and you can tell that from Colleen's training as an actress, she gives each song a character, a voice, and a storyline. The songs range from uptempo to ballads, and each one seems to be more of a reward for listening further into the album. Particular favorites for me seem to be "Fair Margaret & Sweet William," and "Sailor Boy." The "Lullabye" is also quite lovely. For anyone who might be sitting on the fence about whether or not to buy this album, I say kick your leg over to the other side and do it. You'll be glad you did. I look forward to her next project.
