When Colleen Sherlock first started on her journey of composing music, she never imagined that she would have composed more than two or three songs. Inspiration was always around her, but it wasn’t until one day, while watching the ocean waves from her apartment window, that she sought to mimic nature’s rhythm by playing a few chords on her keyboard, as if her fingers were emulating the sounds of the waves. This began to develop into a melody, which turned into her title track, “Ocean Spirit”.
While some may perceive her as, “she’s really quiet”, “too serious”, etc… actually, she’s always listening…closely, processing thoughts in her head, to the sounds and tones that perhaps others may not even notice. Colleen said, “I’ve tried to identify and capture those emotions and sounds that I’ve felt and heard, by observing the environment and elements around me“.
In the 2007 movie, “August Rush”, Evan Taylor’s (Freddie Highmore) last line was, “The music is all around us, all you have to do is listen.” When asked about this film quote, Colleen said, “This inspirational film enhanced my learning and understanding the process of listening to the sounds of nature“.
Currently, Colleen is in the early process phase of collaborating with other local singers/songwriters for a future album. On that album will be her lyrical songs such as “Hands of Time” and “Angel Wings“.
