George Colligan and his new organ trio Mad Science (Tom Guarna, guitar, and Rodney Holmes, drums)have released a CD on the Sunny Sky label. The CD also features Tenor sax and Flute legend Gary Thomas. The CD, also called Mad Science is now being transmitted nationwide, supported by independent, public, college, internet and jazz radio stations.

According to Jason Bivens of Cadence "Colligan's playing continues to impress," and Colligan has impressed not just critics with his playing and composing, but also fans (over 18,000) who voted for him to win the online competition of Jazzconnect.com in 2001. Colligan also impressed a panel of music professionals, winning the Chamber Music America/Doris Duke New Works Creation grant in 2003. Colligan (who has over 70 credits as a sideman with players like Cassandra Wilson, Don Byron, and Buster Williams) is prolific as a leader with 15 recordings, all with original compositions. Now Colligan explores a deeper groove with his new organ trio Mad Science.

The music is at once groovy and funky, mysterious and deeply romantic, full of Colligan's trademark verve on the keyboard and inventive composition. Mike Joyce, of the Washington Post writes: "[Colligan's] latest collaboration, the organ-powered Mad Science ensemble, reveals his multiple talents in a series of intriguing, groove-triggered settings." Tom Guarna (Blood Sweat & Tears, Yellow Jackets, Randy Brecker, Tim Hagans) contributes compositions and mellifluous guitar work and Rodney Holmes (Zawinul Syndicate, Brecker Brother, Carlos Santana, David Gilmore, Steve Kimock) "places notes and sounds with an artist's touch."
