Color Phobos is built on the foundation of nearly 17 years of collaboration between songwriting partners Joel Jackson and Ken Downie. Jackson and Downie met in suburban Detroit while in their late teens, created and destroyed several bands in several towns, and formed the Color Phobos project in 2000 with drummer Chris Krady. The band's first full-length CD was released in 2007 by Faux Beaux Music.
In a time not so long ago when Rock was "classic," the standards for musicianship in Rock were higher than they are today. Vocal harmonies were lush; instrumental solos told rich, melodic tales; lyrics were profound and romantic, or playful and bombastic, but either way they were poetry. In the '80s, the advent of the digital era allowed the music industry to flood with processed rhythms and armchair producers. By the early '90s, the people's cry to get back to basics brought us an era of garage-style grunge and post-punk pop that yielded some bright stars, but sadly became a caricature of itself almost overnight. And then, things got worse.
Where now are the artisans, the craftsmen, the orchestrators who would weave tapestries of tones on looms of grooves? For this is what the ear is craving.
This is Color Phobos. Only music can save us now.

Reminiscent of that great Doobie Brother's sound
and musicianship quality, this cd "takes me there"... Perfect music while riding along
Pacific Coast Highway.... Perfect music for
hanging out at the beach...Or music to
contemplate by, while at home working -
I go for how music makes me feel and
this cd taps into my senses. A must have
for a musician's collection.

These boys are soldiers of Rock!
author: Liz
I've been waiting for an album of this incredible quality for about 10 years! There isn't a bad song in the bunch. Up to You is the perfect opener--inspiring & full of hope; Linear rocks the way jazz used to; Obsidian Trail is a perfectly natural tribute to life; Pretty Soo, well, that's just awesome. Thanks so much for this album...

A CD of many interesting diverse songs (mixed well)

This album is packed with a lot of skilled songwriting, musicianship and taste... Obsidian Trail was my favorite...kind of creepy in a good way. Pretty Soo had the same sort of feel to me. Creepy. Deep. I'd have to say 'refreshing' would be the best word to describe it. There are quite a few great guitar solos in this album as well. And lyrics. Deep lyrics. This is not "quirky," or "Trendy" if you know what I mean. It's just really good...(and mixed really well)...
